This doesn't impact on you stay at all. Its had and having lots of money spent on it and its lovely to see the current owners are bringing it back in the style it was that reflects its heritage. The art deco style is prominent throughout. The breakfast was superb and the staff are lovely. All very friendly and seem reflect they like working within this tremendous hotel. When we checked in, the welcome could not havd been warmer. Charlie, on reception is a brilliant "front of house man". He was extremely helpful and always met us with a smile when we saw him. Its a skill to be familiar and friendly, without being overwhelming. This lad is an asset to the place. He as humour, familiarity and a brilliant local knowledge. All in all ot was a great stay. We will be back. My only area for improvement would be better communicating that these rooms are essentially self-catering. A small amount of tea, coffee and milk is provided as a welcome when you arrive, but you really need to bring your own if you are staying for more than one night. We came in unequipped for self-catering, but there was a small shop for essentials and a bar/restaurant for lunch and dinner on-site. Staff were also extremely helpful in directing us to a nearby truckers’ café that did really good breakfasts. I would definitely stay here again." This is a very ordinary hotel, despite the hot tubs, pool and spa. The decor is vile, all dull browns with turquoise. In the “Troutbeck” room there is a nasty trip hazard into the bathroom. A stubbed toe was annoying but a cracked skull would have been more so. Tip: if it’s not fixed put a rolled up hand towel down to fill the gap and catch your attention. Pillows were like sandbags and need immediate replacement. The mattress had an uncomfortable lump and was likely in need of replacement too. The hot tub was good, as was the jacuzzi bath. The fridge was handy, and the chairs comfortable enough for a short while. Free parking on site. The building is a maze of corridors and stairs. Regrettably the lift was out of order for the first 24 hours or so. As a walking stick user this was less than ideal. Breakfast was okay but not special. My choice of evening meal, “roast of the day”, was almost inedible. Vegetable selection poor. The wait staff were pleasant but scruffy, in contrast to the smart and highly exuberant maitre’d. It is far from being a gourmet restaurant and there are other places to eat." Room was very clean, reception staff very welcoming and the beds are comfortable. We loved the view from our window of the lake and hills. Gorgeous location! Only issues was we had no fridge in our room, not having somewhere cold to store our 'bottled gifts' we brought from our wedding was disappointing. Also the reception lounge bar was closed constantly, its a shame as we fancied a nice cocktail and snack to celebrate, the actual restaurant was a bit too pricey for us.
