Cozy Historic Home on Great Diamond Island

Cute and cozy, the historic radio shack sits atop a knoll on a private lot. This little gem is ideal for 1-2 people. Galley kitchen, open bedroom/living area, and full bathroom with shower. Outdoor furniture and grill. Peeks of westerly water views offer beautiful summer sunsets. Just steps from Sea Glass Beach and Moon Garden.

Great Diamond Island in Casco Bay, off the coast of Portland, is one of the most picturesque islands in Maine.

Visitors come via ferry, water taxi, or private boat to explore this secluded jewel and take in the island's 193 acres of spectacular natural landscape perfect for outdoor recreation and relaxation.

Diamond Cove is the island's small private residential community, formerly a military base built during America's Gilded Age. Army structures that were once scattered over the land have been restored and are now homes with wonderful historic detail and character.

Prior to being an army base, Diamond Cove was a famous artists' retreat where American literary greats such as Henry Wadsworth Longfellow and Harriet Beecher Stowe spent time.

Today, Diamond Cove is also home to the luxurious Inn at Diamond Cove, highly rated Diamonds Edge Restaurant, and the Fort McKinley Museum.

With its spectacular sunsets, sheltered beaches, and acres of old-growth forest, this unique and historic location offers visitors an unparalleled opportunity to experience the tranquility of Maine island living.

Great Diamond Island is not accessible from the mainland by car and primary modes of transportation are golf carts and bicycles.

Community Amenities include:
Duckpin bowling
Fitness gym
Game room
Indoor basketball court
Library
Mailroom
Private beaches
Swimming pool
Tennis courts
Walking trails

GETTING HERE
Diamond Cove is a car-free community, which is part of what makes it so special. Parking in Portland is the sole responsibility of the guest. Guests must arrive on the Diamond Cove Dock via Ferry or Water Taxi. This is part of the magical experience of entering the Island State of Mind.

PRIVATE WATER TAXI
We highly suggest arranging a private water taxi before your arrival. We recommend contacting Fogg’s Water Taxi Service.

FERRY
Another method of transportation is the Ferry service, provided by Casco Bay Lines. The ferry terminal is located at the Maine State Pier, 56 Commercial Street, Portland, ME. While we are located on Great Diamond Island, please ensure you are purchasing tickets to the Diamond Cove Dock. The most updated schedule is on the Casco Bay Lines website.

Disliked: Cleanliness
Dirty, unresponsive homeowners, but a nice setting
We arrived by ferry on cold and very rainy Monday night. We were apparently unexpected, and the house wasn't ready. Staff at the Inn picked us up at the ferry, and dropped us at the Inn while they checked the property. They brought sheets to make the bed, which wasn't made. The house was musty and dirty, the bathroom had not been cleaned, floors had not been mopped, blankets and dish towels were musty and unusable, there were no potholders, and dishes were left in the dish drainer from previous guests. Bedding was finally sorted out with the Inn Tuesday evening. The musty odor left the place unbreathable and on Wednesday we were able to air all rugs and cloth goods over the deck railings, open all windows, and ran (and emptied) the dehumidifier all day. We put blankets and the decorative pillows in a plastic bag as they smelled so musty. We were finally able to sleep Wednesday evening, and left, as planned, Thursday morning. The 'homeowners' did not and have not responded to our emails. Considering a significant cleaning fee, we did not enjoy the benefit of cleanliness and spent our 'getaway' worried and working to make the place habitable. Thankfully the staff at the Inn were kind and helpful. We are still not sure what the relationship or role this VRBO homeowner has with the Inn. Without their help, we would have had to turn around and leave the island that night. Terrible customer service.

Great little place to stay for 2 people
I aboslutly loved this little place. It was cozy and more inviting then I was expecting. I would have gave this place a 5 star if there were a few detals worked out 1. Spider webs on the celing should be cleaned 2. Front door dosent lock and is hard to close. (Maybe have instructions on how to lift up on the door to close) 3. Curtans in the batroom for privacy Overall we really loved our stay and Manny from the inn was 100% amazing at making sure we were taken care of. I would definitely would stay again and would recomend family and friends to stay here or anywhere on Great Dimond Island!
