The Space: \- The kitchen is fully equipped with cooking appliances and supplies. Basic pantry items, such as spices, sugar, butter, flour and milk are already there for your convenience. We have a stovetop with small oven (large enough for 13x9 pan, but not tall enough for a turkey), toaster, microwave, coffee maker, crockpot, pots and pans, BBQ utensils, propane grill, and dinnerware. \- A complimentary bottle of bubbly will be waiting for you in the fridge, as well as all the fixins’ for a hearty breakfast on your first morning. Generally this will be eggs from our hens, sausage, orange juice, English muffins, oatmeal , muffin mixes, pancake mix & syrup, butter, jam, coffee, tea, milk and half and half. \- The dining table is large. Or dine on the 300 square foot screened-in porch (no pesky flies ruining your BBQ), while watching for the occasional deer, coyote, or aoudad. There are many bird species as well, such as road runners, quail, hawks, orioles, indigo buntings, stellar jays and owls. \- The great room offers comfortable seating, and a KING bed near the bathroom. We also have an interesting selection of books about the area. \- A spiral staircase accesses the loft bedroom which features two beds (a single and a double). \- The extra large bathroom with clawfoot bathtub and a crystal chandelier is luxurious, elegant, and every woman’s dream. NEW 2020, we now provide quality German coffee to our guests. NEW 2021, we now have a double carport to protect your vehicle. NEW 2023, we now have an outdoor fire pit. NEW 2025, we no longer allow pets in either cabin. Guest Access: Guests have the entire cabin centered on over 6 secluded acres of peace and quiet all to themselves. There is only one other cabin (The Hideout at Palo Duro Canyon - Rider’s Roost, which sleeps 4), on the 6.5 acre property. There are beautiful horses and two goats, Danny Boy and Fern, grazing the property. All this privacy, yet the State Park which offers hiking and mountain biking nirvana, Palo Duro Creek Ranch Jeeping tours, and Palo Duro Riding Stables are all less than two miles away! And don’t forget the musical drama TEXAS which shows in the park’s outdoor amphitheater June through mid-August. If you like museums, the Panhandle Plains Historical Museum is approximately 10 miles away and is the largest history museum in the state of Texas. Bar Z Winery is also near by. It’s a 30 minute drive to Amarillo, home of the famous Route 66, the Cadillac Ranch, The Big Texan Steak Ranch, the Amarillo Center for the Performing Arts, Amarillo Botanical Gardens, and the 6th street antique mall. We, as hosts and owners of the property, will frequently be on the property tending to the animals, watering trees, perhaps cleaning the other cabin on the property. Please note ONLY the number of guests booked can be on the property. We do not accept 3rd party bookings as this is against booking platform policy. Only the guests that book the property can be on the property. Guests cannot have additional visitors. Guests having parties or events such as weddings will be fined and asked to leave immediately. No smoking or vaping is allowed inside. Guests will be charged if we have to hire a company to remove smoke/vaping odors. No pets of any kind allowed. The Neighborhood: The cabin is located approximately 1.5 miles from the entrance to Palo Duro Canyon State Park. During the summer months TEXAS Musical Drama shows at the park's outdoor amphitheater. Palo Duro Riding Stables is just a stone throw from The Hideout. They’ve been around since 1962 and some of their horses are 3rd generation trail horses. Jesse and Kristen Sorenson really know their business! We highly recommend them! Palo Duro Creek Ranch Jeep Tours is located between The Hideout and the state park entrance. Have a blast exploring a private part of the canyon in an all terrain vehicle with driver. Creek House Honey Farm is a great first stop on the way into the town of Canyon for lunch, or a great last stop on the way back to your cabin for a drink! The Panhandle Plains Historical Museum is 11 miles away, and is the largest history museum in the state of Texas. Bar Z Winery is also very close by. We have great restaurants on the town square, such as Joe Taco's, Sayakamaryns, and Palace Coffee. Feldman’s family diner is also in town, as is Pepitos Mexican Restaurant. The city of Amarillo is a 30 minute drive from the cabin, and has a wide variety of arts, entertainment, sporting events and restaurants. It’s home of The Big Texan Steak Ranch, home of the 72 ounce steak! Getting Around: There is no public transportation. Other Things to Note: Due to the fact there are horses on the property, it is imperative that guests keep the entrance gate closed at all times when entering or exiting the property. Our horses graze on our neighbor’s property. However, guests are not allowed to access neighboring properties and must remain within the 6.5 fenced acres of this property. Please be sure all members in your party are aware of this. While our horses are very friendly, do not pet or feed them. All activities on the property are subject to the Equine Inherent Risk Law. By renting the property you have indicated that by your presence on the grounds you have accepted the limits of liability resulting from inherent risks of equine activities under Texas law. No smoking or vaping is allowed inside the cabin or elsewhere on the property due to high fire danger. This is a very strict rule. We do allow smoking/ vaping on the screened porch where we provide a cigarette disposal receptacle. Guest will be charged if we have to hire professionals to remove smoke or vapor from inside the cabin. We do not allow use of the wood stove if children under age 12 are in your party. The property is a no drone zone. Use of drones is expressly prohibited. We will not ship forgotten items to you! Anything you leave behind will be donated to local charities. No dog, cats, or pets of any kind allowed. You may notice our horses wander through the red gate onto our neighbor’s 25 acres. That property is however off limits for our guests. Trespassing laws would be enforced. Additionally, we sometimes have rescue horses with possible health issues that would make feeding them treats risky, such as swallowing disorders, digestive disorders (prone to colic), or tooth issues. Again, we want to stress, do not feed them. Thank you. Swimming in the pond is strictly prohibited. The split rail fence by the pond must also remain gated closed to keep the miniature horses from accessing the pond This property is subject to HOA rules and regulations. It is in a quiet zone. Therefore, no parties, events, or outside music is allowed. No outside fires allowed. We do have a propane fire pit for guest use. Music is ok on the porch as long as it’s not so loud it can be heard at the other cabin or by our neighbors. Interaction with Guests: Your hosts will be available by phone 24/7, and live only 2 miles away. A concierge service is available for a $40.00 fee. We do come on the property every morning and every evening to tend to the horses. We enjoy visiting with our guests, but we also respect your privacy. During summer we are often on the property watering trees. ## Property amenities ### Internet - Available in the cabin: WiFi ### Parking and transportation - Onsite parking options include a garage ### Kitchen - Coffee/tea maker - Cookware, dishware, and utensils - Microwave - Oven - Refrigerator - Stovetop - Toaster ### Dining - Breakfast available for a fee ### Bedrooms - 2 bedrooms - Bedsheets provided ### Bathroom - 1 bathroom - Hair dryer - Shower - Shower/bathtub combination - Towels provided ### Living spaces - Fireplace ### Entertainment - Games - Smart TV ### Outdoor areas - Balcony - Barbecue grill - Firepit - Garden ### Laundry - Laundry facilities ### Work spaces - Office ### Comfort - Air conditioning - Heating ### Pets - Service animals only (pets not allowed) ### Suitability/Accessibility - Area rugs in public areas - Smooth flooring in public areas - Smoking not allowed ### Services and conveniences - Change of bedsheets (on request) - Iron/ironing board ### Location highlights - In a rural location ### Things to do - Cycling nearby - Fishing nearby - Horseback riding nearby - Mountain climbing nearby - Rock climbing nearby ### Safety features - Carbon monoxide detector (host has indicated there is a carbon monoxide detector on the property) - Smoke detector (host has indicated there is a smoke detector on the property) - Fire extinguisher ### General - At least 80% lighting from LEDs - Bed sheets changed on request - Garden - Grey water recycling system - Humane treatment of captive wild animals - Local artist showcase - Local culture and ecosystem education - Locally-owned and organized tours and activities - Unit size: 1,100 square feet - Water-efficient showers - Water-efficient toilets ## Similar properties ![Exterior detail](https://images.trvl-media.com/lodging/91000000/90720000/90719200/90719182/e2d30c5c.jpg?impolicy=fcrop&w=469&h=201&p=1&q=medium) ### The Aoudad Cabin at Palo Duro Canyon - Barbecue grill 10 Exceptional 83 reviews CA $178 CA $295 total includes taxes & fees Jan 24 - Jan 25 [](https://www.expedia.ca/Hotel-Search?startDate=2026-01-24&endDate=2026-01-25&selected=90719182&PinnedHotelID=90719182&HadPinnedHotel=true®ionId=-1&adults=2) ![Interior](https://images.trvl-media.com/lodging/91000000/90780000/90776600/90776589/004b521b.jpg?impolicy=fcrop&w=469&h=201&p=1&q=medium) ### The Cottonwood Cabin at Palo Duro. Also, the distance to Palo Duro Canyon State Park cannot be beat. We loved the farm fresh eggs, breakfast items, well appointed bathroom & kitchen, and the assistance with procuring items we forgot, like a guitar! Andrea is truly a fantastic hostess. And we loved being so close to the animals that also call the hideout home. We can’t wait to come back. ##### Celeste H. Stayed 3 nights in Apr 2025 ### 10/10 Excellent #### Jeff P. The pictures are great but actually seeing the property was even better. We were able to fish the pond, enjoy the old west feel of the house, and hang out with the horses on property. Our hosts were extremely helpful with every question we had. We will be back soon. Regarding location, it doesn’t get much better. We were 10 minutes from Canyon and 5 minutes from the park and horseback riding. We had a blast. ##### Miguel S. Stayed 4 nights in Mar 2025 ### 10/10 Excellent #### Kathryn T. Great location just a couple of minutes from the entrance to Palo Duro Canyon. The property was absolutely spotless and there we some very nice welcome gifts including some eggs just fresh from the chicken coop and other breakfast fixings. The property had everything my wife and I needed for our visit. The hostess, Andrea, reached out to us a couple of times to ensure that we had everything we needed for our visit. The property is mere minutes from Palo Duro State Park. You can't be any closer! Andrea, our host, clearly puts a lot of love into providing a great experience for guests. The cabin is well furnished and has a well stocked kitchen. The farm fesh eggs were such a nice treat. We loved watching the horses graze from the comfort of the screened patio and spent our evenings enjoying the cool spring air. The decor of the cabin is rustic and includes a delightful, screened in porch with a swing and table that seats six comfortably. We didn't spend a lot of time in the cabin during the day as we were visiting our son and his family who were camping in the State Park. We took advantage of several amenities such as wi-fi and a full kitchen and refrigerator complete with fresh eggs and bagels provided by Andrea. We will certainly recommend The Hideout to our friends and family. ##### Michael B. Stayed 3 nights in Jun 2024 ### 10/10 Excellent #### rachel j. It has a wonderful screened in porch, and you can hear the waterfall in the pond. My son and I stayed up to see the Milkyway in the dark sky. Inside it is decorated vintage upper class home style of the old west, with all the modern comforts. It would be great for romantic getaways. The owner was pleasant, very easy to talk to and knowledgeable about the area. We enjoyed our stay and hope to come back soon. R. J ##### rachel j.
