We loved hiking on the Blue Ridge Parkway near Rocky Knob and visiting the Mabry Mill. Must spend some time in Mt. Airy and see the "true" Mayberry and the Andy Griffith museum and sights. The Jolo winery and restaurant was an excellent find as well with great food and an incredible atmosphere. Mount Pilot was another short trip worth visiting. Beautiful vista from the deck -- I added a peak finder app, so I could identify mountains in the distance. Our stay took place during some very hot days, and it was always a relief to come back to the cabin's comfort. We visited the Blue Ridge Music Center (on the Blue Ridge Parkway) and Mt. Airy NC, where we specially recommend the Museum of Regional History. All the basic kitchen tools are in place. We spent alot of time on the porch just catching up with each other and remarking about God's creation of such a beautiful place. Trying to drive up the mountain and find the cabin in the dark of night (9pm) was not a good choice by us. Drive up in the day time -- save yourself the stress and enjoy seeing the deer and other amazing animals along the route!
