The hotel was dirty, and the rooms not cleaned very well, service was very bad and no chef for breakfast in the morning. I will not be staying here again.

I had one of the staff walk into my room and say that he thought there was no one in the room. He was laughing when he opened and looked into the room. Absolute disgrace

Very ordinary stay here in old hotel. Staff not very friendly and di the bear minimum. Cutlery in room dirty. Asked for clean and got plastic spoons but they didn't take the dirty ones away, so I binned them. No toast at breakfast as the toaster had broken. Not sure what was wrong with using the grill?? Shift manager was the unfriendliest lady I have come across in a while. As she was front of house, it made for a poor start. Parking says £10 per stay, it's actually £15 per stay. Wrongly advertised and I won't be back considering there are far better hotels to stay in in and around Peterborough

Won’t be returning
Very poor service. No effort from the lady on reception at all. Car park next door very expensive. Whilst the building is old and packed with character the rooms are very tired. Loose fixtures and fittings and one of the worst showers I’ve ever had. It was far too hot and couldn’t be turned down! All in all a very poor experience.

This is the first negative review I have ever left, but... The "self parking" displayed on the booking page omits to inform you of the £15 per night charge by the hotel (plus extra charges if you want to use your car after you have checked in!!!) Add this unannounced cost to the room fee and it's not worth it to stay at a jaded, noisy hotel whose ivy covered windows don't let on much light but do let in draughts, noise and bugs, and which serves a breakfast they should be paying you to try and eat. Save yourself the trauma and go elsewhere.

Positives: Check in - quick Bed - comfortable Shower- pressure and flow excellent Negatives: Overall, this is no where near the quality hotel it was when I was last in the area 15 or so years ago. Looks and feels dated and unloved. I went to my room, left my bag and went out not returning to later in the evening. When I turned off the tv before going to sleep, I found there was a machine in the next door room that hummed ALL night. The room door was secured with a padlock so was not a guest. Too late to go to Reception so opened the window which balanced out the room noise with outside sounds. Bizarre but worked!!! Breakfast, oh dear!!!! Served from 07 to 09, no problem. Arrived at 0705 and offered tea or coffee straight away… great. Then ordered the ‘full English’ to be told that there were no eggs available. WHAT???!!! It’s 0705 and there are no eggs, what is going on? Also, there is a Waitrose a 30 second walk away and I know that they sell eggs,,,,,, lots of them. I’ve attached a photo to show just how near the supermarket is!!! Another guest at a nearby table asked for the Vegetarian breakfast to be told there were no veggie sausages available. Crazy. A previous review mentions the rats in the car park. They are still there..the only bigger ones I have seen were in Bali and Singapore. I watched them playing around the parked cars. It will be another 15 years, if ever, before I return here again. The staff were doing their best but no eggs? Come on!!!!

1st we were greeted by 3 rats 2 alive 1 dead. Oh and a couple of tramps asking for money. This is after finding out parking was £15.00 per 6 - 24 hr period. So our 3 day stay cost £45, something to keep in mind when/if booking. Check in ok? No service with a smile Corridors smelt like piss, that is when you notice the poor condition of the hotel. Rooms: 1st impressions needed TLC / renovation. Taps loose, no cold water in basin both taps hot. Basins cracked floor tiles cracked, towels stained and rooms generally dirty. Only 1 double socket in room under desk. Beds unbelievably uncomfortable & creaky. Breakfast average, but service poor, due to one staff member, one 1 salt and pepper pot for the whole hotel. THE BAR, if you can get service order 2 or 3 rounds when you can. The bar maid (blonde, lazy, miserable and angry) you will know who we mean. Only appears when she needs a snack. Although not available for the public. Key card only works once a day. I’m summary absolutely the worst hotel we have ever stayed in. This may seem like a joke or exaggerated but it is not. Also no chance of alfresco drinking due to tramps sleeping on tables. Good location,

Hotel Paradiso without the nuclear power plant
Worst hotel I’ve stayed in , checked into a room that was full of decorating stuff , given another room which only had 1 out of 4 lights in bathroom working , then had another guest walk into room whilst I was just in my underwear , then had receptionist come to room and question who I was even tho she booked me in , after complaining about the lights and hot water thinking they would rectify those for the next night , no such luck in fact they didn’t even clean the room , the hall carpet looks filthy and so does the room carpet , I don’t usually complain but this hotel is that bad , I wasn’t offered and partial refund and when I told the staff the next night as the room key didn’t work they just laughed and try to dismiss it

Great Location
Two friends and I stayed here for three nights. The location is excellent. Next to railway station and a short walk into the city centre. The hotel was built in 1852 and although much changed internally since then, it is a bit ramshackle and in need of more investment. The service was ok and the breakfasts were good.

Shambles of a stay
This hotel is an absolute shambles. The most run down place I have ever stayed, the overall feel is not welcoming or inviting. The smell of every room is disgusting and I advise they should try opening a window. I feel for the poor lady whom had a busy bar to deal with as well as check-in 6+ groups in all alone. 100% avoid this place as there are far better options not far out. I booked in for 3 nights but barely imagined 1 night.

This is a spectacularly maintained bit of railway hotel history. We loved the grand style of the room, and found it very spacious. The bathroom in particular was huge by many hotel standards. There is a sense throughout the building that history is being maintained.

Smelly and in poor condition.
Very disappointing Check In wasn't great. The room smelled of staleness and the shower was red hot. When I asked for an iron the girl on the desk said there were none left as they were all out but was not willing to ask any guests if they had finished with them and that was that. breakfast was OK but I would expect them to serve fresh tea and not have it stewing on the side. Its not worth its 7.6 rating more like a 6. .

Friendly, helpful staff. Good location for public transportation. WiFi is terrible - very slow, hard to connect to, kept dropping out. WiFi cannot sustain a Zoom meeting for more than about 5 minutes - the Bull Hotel and Dragonfly internet is much better. Poor place to stay to do any business involving using the internet.

If you just want a place to sleep that is practically attached to the train station, this place is fine. In my experience, if you want the Wi-Fi to reach your room, your kettle to work, the breakfast to be any good, or to be able to get in at night without having to call the staff, then you should probably go somewhere else. The staff is quite nice and doing their best, but clearly the management here is a bit of a clown show.

As regards the front door, we do close this for security at night and there is a door bell, and a mobile number to call if the Night porter is elsewhere in the building, pretty standard procedure for a lot of hotels at night. Hotel so old had no electricity
On booking in early afternoon discovered room had no power (so no lights, no sockets etc…). Immediately reported to reception- told couldn’t change room as full but would be sorted. Returned late on and still no power. Still waiting to hear from management, no sign of a refund. Nice building but old and needs revamping. Staff seemed hard working and professional but not enough of them.

Not the best.
Hotel on the surface appears very nice, howevef on arrival we had to find someone to be able to check in. The room was small, and for a booking for 2 people only 3 pillows provided, 1 glass but 2 plastic cups in the bathroom, and a very bright sensor light outside the ensuite which was quite disturbing in the night. Breakfast was not right, the coffee urn was cold and almost empty, the milk in the urn was off and not many of the tables had all that was needed for breakfast, ie cups and saucers, jams,and no side plates to be seen. Probably won't be going back. One last thing parking was expensive even though we were residents.

A disappointing stay
A disappointing stay which started when I found I had to pay £15 to park my car! My room was clean but looked tired. I had to stick two tea spoons into the window frame to stop it rattling in the wind. The toilet handle almost came away in my hand. I reported this but wonder what action will be taken.

GREAT HOTEL
Handy location in extreme. (Having arrived by train!) A lovely Gent checked us in early @1pm. Could not have been more helpful. Lovely young lady served us breakfast. Nice garden considering its middle of town/urban area. We enjoyed all.
