Run down, old and out of date

Posted 24-Aug-2015
Pros: location
Cons: Get a friendly front desk lady. The hotel is old and needs a complete renovation. The bathrooms are so small you can barely move.
Location: centrally located.
The lady at the front desk was very abrupt and unfriendly, so much so that we would have gone somewhere else if we hadn't pre-booked.

excellent hotel for business travelers

Posted 23-Aug-2015
Pros: great parking, many hotel amenities, decent lounge, helpful staff great location
Cons: Fans in the bathroom, signs in the rooms encouraging and reminding guest to wear appropriate swimwear so as not to cause undo stress on other guests.
Location: Football stadium across the street, liquor/convenience store, many fast food joints and C train(mass transit) within 2 min walk.
The Best Western Hotel is one of the better establishments situated in the very convenient Motel village area. Since my last visit in 2013 it has undergone a great deal of renovations to maintain a more contemporary look. The secure underground parking was complimentary as the parking garage was still under renovation and not all stalls available. I enjoy the piece of mind of having my car in the underground parking rather than the open air parking lots. The check in was very easy and fast and was delighted to see that my booking request to be located on the higher floors away from the noisy swimming pool was accommodated. The room was comfortable and spacious, however the bathroom lacks a fan?? Why has this hotel never had a fan in the bathroom during any of my stays? please bring your own air freshener if sharing a room. The hotel also boasts a gym, a restaurant ,Hot tub and swimming pool, many board and conference rooms as well as The Rocky Mountain lounge which is an ideal place for evening business meetings:) i have yet to try the Buffet room. Adult guest wishing to swim in the pool should do so near the 10 pm closing time as during the day there are far too many overweight guests wearing way too small swimwear:( Staff were very friendly and helpful and the interactive screen near the front desk featuring Calgary attractions was a nice touch. C train station( mass Transit) is located one block away. 10 min Ctrain ride to downtown Calgary.

Nice hotel...but the pillows sucks.

Posted 20-Aug-2015
Nice hotel but please change the pillows..the bed is very comfortable though..but the pillows are not...if you stay in room 401 the hot and cold in the shower are backwards..the jacuzzi Suite in room 538 is not updated and not worth the money also the jacuzzi is so uncomfortable to lay in.

Very accessable to major N.S.E.W. routes.

Posted 31-Jul-2015
Pros: Staff are very accommodating.
Cons: Towel bars/racks in bathrooms.
Location: We chose VP Inn because of the location. We had functions to attend in East YYC and South West as well so Crowchild Trail was right there.
Once renovations have been completed it will be a very nice hotel.

Great location, great stay

Posted 30-Jul-2015
Pros: Staff and location and value for money
Cons: Kettle ins room for us tea drinkers, thermostat on hot tap and fix safe to the wall or cupboard for security.
Location: Short trip by C train into Calgary central for shops and restaurants etc.had 2 fantastic meals in big Ts barbecue restaurant 2 mins walk from hotel.
Stayed during stampede, had read reviews and was very pleasantly surprised. Staff great, room large, breakfast great. Fantastic convenient location near c train which takes you directly to stampede or downtown Calgary. Had lovely free cold juice in lobby daily. Only problems were minor as noted by other guests- rooms could be noisy due to restaurant in the morning, air conditioner was very noisy also and bathroom was small plus the water was so hot I scalded myself in the shower. Would also have liked a kettle for tea and safe should surely be fixed in the cupboard? But overall had a good stay and would recommend for location, friendliness and atmosphere. Great value particularly compared to downtown hotels.

Pros: Not much
Cons: Make handicapped for everybody
Location: Was good location
The room was unfinished. I am a person who is handicapped . The bathroom was so small I couldn't shower. There was no hand shower and no bars around the toilet. The bed was so high luckily my husband was there to help me on. We had reserved a room that was handicapped but when we got there they had us booked for a different room. All and all we were very disappointed.

Great location for easy access to many attractions

Posted 10-Jul-2015
Older hotel but currently undergoing renovations and updating. Room was spacious and clean. Beds comfortable. All rooms face a courtyard that extends all five stories so sometimes the noise from below could be heard in your room. Underground parking was a nice feature. Continental breakfast had your standard options, hot foods could have been a bit warmer in their chafing dishes. Pool was adequate but the Whirlpool temperature was not hot enough and it had a very strong chlorine smell. Location of hotel on Crowchild Trail made for very easy and quick access to many different local attractions. Located across the street from McMahon Stadium.

I read a few reviews saying that the hotel was very dated. The exterior definitely shows that but I was stunned when I walked inside. It must have been renovated recently because it is beautiful inside. Rooms were also amazing. Super comfy beds and our room even had a Keurig. The hotel lounge also surpassed my expectations, the food was very good.
