It is not necessarily a town that I would generally recommend. It is not your traditional Spanish/Catalan dream destination. It very much looks like something the 70's spit out and no one ever bothered to clean up. With that said, I freaking love this little freakish town, which I quickly & affectionately nicknamed "The Twilight Zone." The strangest occurrences happened throughout the month, yes MONTH, I lived in Calella. Apparently since the 70's, Calella, was a booming tourist destination for Western Europeans and the British. It has been on a massive decline over the past decade. What's left behind though are some fun Dutch and English/Irish pubs, a small welcoming expat community, and one of the most incredible beaches you will ever lay your eyes on. Beautiful clean white sand for miles and crystal clear turquoise water. Parties & bars on the beach, some free concerts in the summer time and of course drinking it allowed as well. If you happen to find yourself here, you must stop in at Beach Boys Club, tell the owners, Brian & Cathy, that Amber sent you. Then hit up Brian for his secret stash of American imported Budweiser (Did you know the bottled stuff is always produced in country? Brian believes the secrets in the water, so he gets the cans from the US. Brian is British, which makes this little story even better.) Staff are amazing and the all inclusive food and drinks We booked a superior room which was a nice layout and a very light and bright room Only negative was not being able to get a sun lounger as people where reserving them with there towels at 8.30 in the morning. Staff were all polite and helpful, fun too! The spa is nice but the water in the jacuzzi could be warmer. Last year our room was in better condition and seemed cleaner than this year but you do get wear and tear. The area feels safe and 5 mins from the beach with loungers/umbrella, there is a train that beeps about every half hour running alongside the beach but not annoying. Also check for festivals/Iron man as it gets very busy and loud on the street just next to the hotel. Fireworks were fab though! Some shops/bars/restaurants nearby and a few things to visit too. Clean rooms with working air con, comfy bed and balcony. We had a sea view (over/around the other hotels) and it is a 3 minute walk to the beach with free sun loungers for the hotel (get in early). Nice area to walk around, felt safe, and a well-kept promenade for evening strolls. The all inclusive had a variety of food each day alongside the usual salad and chips and varying drinks (just check what is included). It was a really nice place to spend our honeymoon, unfortunately we had to leave early due to a family emergency, which staff were very understanding about, so didn't get to try all the entertainment, spa facilities and see the sights. Some of the reception staff were not very friendly or welcoming. We felt like they did not care, just doing their bare minimum required with grumpy and serious face. Interactions with staff sets a tone on the whole stay. I must mention that the waiting and kitchen staff in general were kind. Another thing, we were disappointed about is the food which wasn't great. Not many healthy options, lots of carbs and meat served was mostly processed and lacked quality. If someone likes seafood then this place is for them I suppose as there were many seafood options. There were not many options for non-seafood eaters like us. There was one instance where the chef from the cooking station served me chicken half cooked, raw inside. I pointed it out to the waitress but there was no action from them. For those unaware raw chicken might seriously poison you. That was off putting and after that we chose not to eat anything prepared at the cooking station. Check-in and check-out was quick and easy. The staff are friendly and very hardworking and the hotel is very clean and rooms comfortable. We found the food tasty and well presented with lots of choice. At busy times there is sometimes a short wait for a table but staff show you to your table and plates are cleared away quickly and set up for the next diners. Never really had to queue for food like you do in alot of inclusive hotels. Bar staff served you quickly so no waiting to get drinks during the day or evening. The pool is clean and although not that big it was never that crowded. Sunbeds are parasols were popular so need to get there early. The cuban rise was excellent exactly like my grandma used to make it!!! I just think the hotel is very small. And you need to leaf to other hotels for some activities. BUT THE TITANIC THEME IS SO AMAZING love the design! We upgraded to a bigger room with Jacuzzi, i recomed the hotel to clean the Jacuzzi at least every two days. We stayed 7 dayes and it was not cleaned once.... the water turned green... also, the floors in the rooms especially the bathroom one in our room. The floor are not really waterproof and i spend a lot of time cleaning up the water because the bathtub was in the middle of the big bathroom. Don't get me wrong the room was amazing i just think this little details could save your hotel cost in the future. I would defently come again it was wounderfull! Great compliment again to the staff!!! I travelled through Spain snd France staying at various types of accomodation during September 23\. This place was the worst by a long way. The advert was nothing like the place I stayed in.
