Mövenpick Hotel Cairo Pyramids

Alexandria Road, Pyramids, Giza - Map
I enjoyed this hotel, it was quiet and peaceful and the room service was good. The bath and sheets were a bit grubby but aside from that the room was comfortable and felt homily. It was like living in a comfortable bungalow and there was a nice garden outside. The swimming pool was clean and quiet and I enjoyed swimming in the ice-cold water. I felt safe in the hotel, I think it takes security seriously. There is airport style security at the hotel and they have a cute guard-dog working there as well. I slept well at nights, the bed was comfortable although there is a distant sound of fireworks across the desert. I found my own local taxi-driver called Nasser, he was funny and took me to see the sights. I enjoyed the hotel breakfast it was good and the service was efficient. As for the security situation, it is very quiet over there and there are lots of guns around but there is also a friendly atmosphere. The Egyptians have a sense of humour. My taxi-drivers last words to me were, 'Don't worry, be happy and walk like an Egyptian'.

"This is not a five-star hotel."
On the first day the drain at the shower booth was stuck, and water flowed in whole bathroom. They sent mentainance person pretty guickly but house keeping staff was late to come. In addition, his cleaning job was not enough to make me comfortable. I requested limousine service to take me to the pyramids but did not request a driver to guide me. He gave me to a guide there. The guide wanted me to pay LE1,200 for his tour. Finally, he discounted it to LE250 when he knew I had no intention to use my credit card there and all the cash I had was LE250. Of course, I know the taxi company is not Conrad Cairo but can it be one a five-star hotel should assign? Overall hotel staff was slow. That may be on egyptian standard. When, however, I had a chance to drop by Four Seasons in Garden City or another five-star hotel, it looked much different. Of course, I know the price is also different. As a result, this is not a five-star hotel. It you suppose this is a three-star hotel, your experience would be great.

"Secure, clean location in the middle of Cairo"
The Marriott is one of my go-to hotels in Cairo. Compared to others in the Zamalek or adjacent areas, I do prefer the Marriott. Last trip to Cairo, I had experimented with various hotels, but I am back with the Marriott for good now. Although the security is not up to standard, it is better than at most other hotels in Cairo. As a business traveler, I have to take this into account. One night I took at trip out to get some IT equipment that I needed for presentations the next day. The hotel staff noted the license plate of the taxi that picked me up, and were sure to welcome me back. That extra bit of security is appreciated The rooms are fine: clean enough, modern enough. Not noteworthy, but I didn't find anything that I would complain about. Beds are reasonably comfortable. Views from many rooms are spectacular: the historical nile in full view! From my room, I looked north down the Nile, across to Tahrir Square and the Museum of Antiquities... a pleasant balcony experience. The room price was a bit high when all taxes were added in, but still not excessive. I will be back to the Marriott for future travel.
