"Comfortable fun"
This is a difficult review to write. Overall, we liked the Riu Chiclana better than this review will sound. The food was very good. The service staff friendly, helpful and charming. The rooms were clean, the pools were beautiful and the beach is incredible. However, there are some downsides. The hotel is an older property and is showing its age. It needs some major repairs and, possibly, some reconstruction. The rooms are small, windowless and claustrophobic. The air conditioning is older and doesn't work very well. Also, this is a resort for people who do not want to do anything but sit in the sun and relax by the water. The hotel is miles from anywhere you might want to visit and there is only one tour operator to speak with if you want to go off property. This tour operator has very limited offerings. The front desk staff is very nice and tries to be helpful but most of the information received about things that were not on the property was wrong. Overall the ClubHotel Riu Chiclana deserves 4 stars and I would give it 4.5 if I could but it isn't perfect.

"Beautiful, modern hotel but restaurant menu tired "
This hotel is beautifully designed. It is very modern with very interesting artistic features. The rooms have amazing views and are comfortable and well appointed. The showers are very efficient. Storage is also very cleverly designed. The only thing that lets this hotel down is the main restaurant. The menu is uninspiring, dull and not fit for the internatinal nature of the guests hence the fact in four days we only saw one couple dining in this large area. The cafe/bar fairs better and that is where most people tend to congregate. Service is good and the food is not bad but again could offer a more modern cuisine to match the ambience. It is worth staying here just to experience the wonderful decor. Everywhere you sit is comfortable, light and attractive.

Was not told about building work, went to hotel for peace and quite as bn before. On this occasion electric drills outside door in morning but worse could not sit on balcony as renovations were being done on there sister building next to us. Terrible noise until 6.00pm. On leaving was told I should he requested a change of room but was also informed hotel was full up. Cleaners start on rooms too early while still in bed.

"beautiful location by beach, friendly staff"
Amazing front desk staff who do everything to help. They booked us hire car, horse riding, bicycle and gave advice on getting to Seville when we missed our coach! Thank you Paula you could be Ambassador. The room was spacious, quiet with a view on to sea, nature and lighthouse. The meals were as you expect from a large hotel. A decent choice, fairly good, but busy ;) Service team organised & friendly. Poolside is pleasant and you can see the sea! Easy to find a sunbed and pool has a slope into it - fab for little ones. 5 mins walk down to stunning white sand beach. Not crowded. It is a cove, pass by some rocks and you are through to a 6km more expansive beaches. My favourite beach in Spain with an amazing sunset. Only a couple of restaurants. One extremely expensive 5 mins away, but worth splashing if you are a gastronomic. The fresh tuna melts in your mouth. Far better value is a restaurant behind the pharmacy about 2 km down the road. Basic, great value, delicious, atmospheric - the choice of locals. Along the beach a pavillion cafe which is nice. Getting into Conil de Frontera is 20 mins by bus. Kids club animation team were soooo wonderful to my 5 y/o daughter who has no Spanish. They put on great shows most nights and we liked dancing in the pool. Amazing energy, talented dancers and fun :)) Roccio has a heart of gold.

"Artistic hallways and reception, exceptional staff"
I would call this a 3-star hotel. It gets 4 stars based on staff and food quality. When you get to the room, that is where the downgrades start. Also, watch your bill, and know before you consume. You WILL be charged for any items removed from the overstocked refridgerator. The buffet is included and is excellent with a good variety (except for evening entrees. However, when you ask for water, they bring you a bottle rather than a glass, without asking, charge you for it, and do not offer a refill. The entrees are also poorly marked. It is also disturbing that there is no soap in the aseos (bathroom) next to the dining room/buffet area. Regarding the room, the furniture is not very comfortable, and the decorating is 50 years out of style. Does anyone remember the green and orange of the 60's? It's pretty similar. Also, this hotel's idea of a double bed is two twin beds doubled together. Anywhere else that I have been, a double bed refers to size. This is not comfortable for a single person, and especially not for a married couple. The staff refused to make a change. I have also not heard of a hotel that charges its guests for parking. What are people supposed to do with their vehicles when they arrive? The spa is also overpriced, considering that not all of the jets work, and then they kick you out 15 minutes before they close, with no discount for the 15 minutes you didn't get to use. I had wanted to sit in the sauna/steam room for the last 15 minutes.

"Four-night stay (11-15 July 2016)"
Fantastic experience. The entire hotel was incredible. From the staff, to the food, to the grounds and the multiple swimming pools, Hotel Playa was definitely a memorable vacation. The Beach Club was fabulous. It reminded me of some of the South Beach waterfront hotels with the cabanas and white-washed beds for rent. Immaculate condition and it felt like they guest was VIP - especially with the rooftop views of the beach. The food and drinks were perfect. The tapas, the Sangria, the Tinto de Veranos...all were outstanding and most importantly, low-priced. Lots of activities to keep yourself occupied with (especially for the kids). Absolutely cannot WAIT to come back. Thank you, Hotel Playa.

"Pleasant surroundings, relaxing, peaceful hotel"
There on business. Took 25 mins by taxi from Gibraltar. Easy check-in. Staff helpful and reasonable restaurant. Hotel has interesting history - not like most modern hotels.
