Designed by Isambard Kingdom Brunel, the bridge is a grade I listed building. The idea of building a bridge across the Avon Gorge originated in 1753. The original plans were for a stone bridge, and later plans were for a cast iron structure. An attempt to build Brunel's design in 1831 was stopped by the Bristol Riots, and the revised version of his designs was built after his death, and completed in 1864. Firstly we had room 11 which had a strong smell similar to cat wee. We were then given room 18, which seemed fine until we opened the door to the en-suite and the same smell was strong in there. This smell was only in the rooms not any public areas. Secondly there was music blasting loudly from venue adjacent to the hotel along with noise from people using that venues outside area. This continued until the music stopped at 2am, and the venue cleared of customers around 2.40am, so no sleep. We would not stay at this hotel again. The rooms were small, clean, with tea/coffee facilities. Rest of hotel was nice and clean. Hotel is situated in a busy and bustling area of the city centre. Close to lots of places to visit within walking distance. Lots of bars and restaurants to choose from. We would not stay at this hotel again. The hotel itself is ion a gorgeous building. The rooms are spacious, and my bathroom was a good size. The only issue I had was that at night the bathroom was VERY cold, and the room itself also chilly. I tried to warm it up via the air con/ heater, but it wasn't powerful enough. This did affect the quality of my sleep. Everything is walkable. We selected a rate offered on Expedia that included valet parking(convenience) and buffet breakfast (excellent). We booked “premium king” which is NOT a Canadian or American King size bed. It is more like a queen. I learned that you really need to book a TWIN bed room. Then ask them to “zip” the 2 twin beds together. Also be careful when you check out, we had prepaid on Expedia (3 months prior when I booked) but the booking didn’t show this and they wanted to charge me.I had my receipt indicating PAID and this took a number of calls and digging and explaining from their side. BE CAREFUL. The reception staff were friendly sorting this out. I just found it fishy.
