"Our 5 night stay at the Cretan Dream Resort was excellent. Nothing to fault about the Resort only that Stalos doesn't offer a great choice for evening dining and there isn't much of an atmosphere either. Hire a car for a short drive, 7.5km, into neighbouring Platanias for a wide selection of excellent restaurants, bars, shops and entertainment."

"This is a horrible property in a horrible location. Do not believe the VRBO photos or the property description. The drive to the property is on narrow cliffside roads and is risky at best at night. Acessing the property requires two cliffside 3 point turns on a narrow gravel road. The property photos are decades old and the property is currently dirty and full of junk. No toilet paper! No lockable front door! The owner told us not to worry because of low crime. A cat freely roams the house and there is filth everywhere, such as cigarette butts in the fireplace. The gas stove leaks and the smell is stronger that the cat pee smell of the residence. The upper bedroom has a major hazard low ceiling fan with blades that reach face level for most folks. There are several exposed electrical wires. The bathroom has a sinktop that has rotted with water damage. A rat or mouse ran across our bed at night and vermin holes are in the window screens. The furniture is nasty, old & worn, broken and/or quite dirty. We left after 2 nights of a 20 day stay and could not get any refund of a four figure fee. Steer clear of this rip off!"

"We visited Balito with a family of 7 and had the most wonderful stay. The hotel is small but updated and it is run by a wonderful family who makes you feel at home. The pool area is lovely and the breakfast and coffee is perfect in the morning. The rooms were good for our large family (we had two rooms with 3 beds each) and the area is very walkable. It’s about a 14 min walk to the beach (with my slower children) and a 10 min taxi into Chania. There is also a bus to take you to town and some of the other beaches that stops nearby but we didn’t do it because of elders in our group. There is a taverna around the corner that was amazing. Overall I highly recommend this hotel and will be back again if we return to Crete. "
