"Undergoing construction"
The hotel (along with the area/street near it) is undergoing construction. That provided an early-morning wake-up call and the lobby isn't exactly welcoming. The restaurant-bar was close to empty on a Friday evening. The lights were turned up high and it lacked a welcoming atmosphere. Still, this is a solid hotel in an expensive (hotel-wise) city in a decent Cambridge location only a few short blocks from the T.

"Great central location, very helpful staff"
I surprised my husband for an extended weekend in Boston and picked the Ames based on other's reviews and location. I can honestly say they delivered in every aspect. We arrived very early in the morning, around 6:45 am, via the red eye from southern California. Our room was obviously not yet ready. We checked our luggage, and were told we would be contacted when our room had been vacated, cleaned, and prepped for our stay. I was thrilled when we were called before 10:00 am that our room was ready. It was cleaned to my very high standards. The only thing I would say about the room itself was that the shower did not have a door by design, and the water leaked out all over the floor due to what appeared to be tiles slanted the wrong way. Not so much an issue, but we were sure to put extra towels outside the shower to catch the water. The bellhop was very nice and friendly, as was each and every front desk staff person we encountered. I actually chose this hotel over another due to the helpfulness and friendliness of the front desk staff when I called asking various questions prior to our booking. I have to say though, that Charles at the concierge desk, was superb! He gave us extraordinary tips for a great bar to go to before the Red Sox game, and worked very hard the next evening to get us a reservation at a high end restaurant on a Saturday night. Overall, great trip, great hotel, great staff! Would highly recommend to anyone traveling to Boston!

"Nice hotel near transportation. AC a problem"
We were there with our grown children and their families. Overall everything was pretty nice. It was certainly not five-star hotel, but we were satisfied. Having a Starbucks in the lobby was a plus. The front desk folks and all employees of the hotel were very good. Only my room had an AC problem. We went to Boston from Fla. to gert away from the heat. :-)

"A pleasant overnight stay."
We were just in the hotel for one night and catching a flight out the next morning. The room was quite comfortable and better than I had anticipated. Clean, comfortable and spacious. A great deal for the price! Thanks very much!

"Good choice for being in the middle of it all. "
Very nice hotel. The restaurant and cafe are over priced for the quality. They think very highly of the food but it's not worth the cost. The location is fantastic and right in the middle of the tourist district.

"Wonderful desk staff"
Kudos to Kip, who checked me in. I shared with him that I had just learned that one of my dogs had cancer. We shared stories about adopting and caring for dogs. His kindness made my time away from home more bearable.

Close to the red line for easy access. My room was wall, but cheery colours helped. The staff were helpful, and they had tea, coffee and snacks available during the day.
