We stayed during March 2020. The property itself was beautiful and the common areas e.g. pool, cafe, lobby, etc. we visited were pretty well kept up. Staff were generally friendly and knowledgeable except for two staff workers who for some reason were not able to help me use the complimentary long distance hotel phone service to call my airline in order to change my flight. They said the hotel line could not connect because the number I gave them was incorrect. After I showed them from the airline’s website that the number was correct, I was forced to show them that the number works by dialing it on my phone which cost me international charges. In the end their phone could not connect and I was forced to use my phone to pay $100 worth of international call charge to rebook my flight. Our room was located in a nice area in Monterey building. The room was pretty standard, but the bathroom had bothersome sewage smell so we kept the fan/blower on and door closed most of the time. There was also a leak from the water hose by the toilet that pooled around the bathroom floor. There were also small insects such as nats and tiny ants... but this didn’t bother me as much as we were on the forestry part of the island.
