Situated among the trees just four miles from downtown Blue Ridge, this spectacular tri-level hillside showplace offers you the ultimate in privacy, modern comforts, and the beauty of nature everywhere you look. Named in honor of the mama bear and her three cubs that inhabit the woods around the property and the Chicago Cubs, the owner's favorite baseball team, the cabin has a warm, relaxing, inviting ambience that makes you feel instantly at home. The soaring cathedral ceiling and enormous glass windows on the main level bring the outside in, flooding the home with light and maximizing the view. The family room, with its leather reclining sofas, wood-burning fireplace, and 55” TV, is the heart of the home, the perfect spot to gather. The fully stocked kitchen has lots of storage space, a double-sized refrigerator, electric range, dishwasher, microwave, drip coffeemaker, crockpot and all the implements you need to cook and serve. The dining table seats six, plus two at the breakfast bar. Love to barbecue? There's a gas grill on the upper deck, where you can enjoy your efforts alfresco—there's a patio table with umbrella and four chairs, a pair of rockers, and seating for five around the wood-burning fireplace. On the lower deck, the six-seat hot tub gives you a beautiful view of the mountains as you soak your cares away. The cabin's three bedrooms are spacious and airy, each with comfortable rustic log beds and ceiling fans. The cabin was beautifully decorated for Christmas. It had a great Mountain View and was only a 10 minute drive into town. The kitchen had all the supplies we needed. The only 2 issues were ladybugs were everywhere inside dead and alive (especially when we got there). And the living has huge windows which is nice, but since there are no curtains/blinds, it can get pretty hot for several hours in the afternoon. You could get a sunburn sitting there. The house is beautifully made and the basement would be nice to have with a large group. The hot tub worked and the instructions for how to use it were sufficient for us to figure it all out. We enjoyed our weekend here!That said, we have a few small notes for others. Considering the price per night, we had higher expectations in some minor areas.1\. Privacy. The cabin is situated in the middle of 3-4 other cabins that are within earshot and direct view. The listing doesn't make this clear by showing summer photos making it look very much the opposite, which feels misleading. However, from a marketing perspective, it makes sense.2\. The management company, Escape to Blue Ridge, required listing every guests name and age on the contract. I haven't come across that before, so it felt out of place. While it may be common for rental companies to do, it was something that caught us off guard and set a weird initial tone for the trip.3\. The king mattress and sheets could have been more comfortable. The mattress was a little hard and the sheets were a bit scratchy. That said, we realize its a rental, so this is not completely unexpected; however, for the amount being paid, we just expected a little more.4\. Checkout required many tasks. Again, this all comes back to the cost per night. At that rate, we didn't expect to have to do as much during checkout, but we were happy to help out. ##### Bryan N. Communication was very good when I had a few questions. The only drawback is the cabin is not stocked with basic items that I have normally found in rentals. Home is an architectural masterpiece, with beautiful wide decks. But the access road is a very winding, very narrow road (barely enough for one car). Not for the faint of heart. One issue is regarding the interior stairs. The layout has a long run with a railing, then there's a 90 degree turn at the bottom of the stair without a railing.We are seniors (in our late-70's and early 80's) and the lack of railings here was problematic. Could also be a concern for small children. Adding railings at the exterior stair would be very helpful. Finally, the exterior stair treads are painted a very dark brown and when walking down, it's very hard to see the steps. I'm a retired Engineer and Building Inspector, so my comments are based on safety concerns. ##### RICHARD G. The house has comfortable beds and seating, it was super clean, and the views were wonderful. My husband said the hot tub was cleaner than any other where we have stayed. The porches are completely enclosed so you don’t have to worry about the kids or pups going out a gate and down some stairs. This also means you only have the front door to go out to walk the pup. There is no grassy area for dogs though, just some small areas of mulch, and no trails or walking paths around the house. We walked our dog up and down the gravel road. There are immediate neighbors to the left and right but enough tree coverage that the porch feels private and gives the illusion of being up in the trees like a tree house. The kitchen is large and roomy. Don’t forget your ziploc bags, foil, or storage containers; the kitchen is fully stocked but not one bowl with a lid. Make sure to bring a long lighter if starting a fire or grill. There was a hand mixer, blender, crockpot, baking pans but no muffin pan. The freezer had an ice maker. The proximity to Blue Ridge made it easy to pop into town for lunch and shopping. We took advantage of several trails that were within a 15 minute drive. We made good use of the hot tub and outdoor fireplace. Beds were very comfy and the master had a big dog kennel in the master closet that we utilized so we didn’t have to get ours out of the car. Checked weather before arriving and purchased food needed just in case winter storm was as predicted. Planning ahead was key. We had everything we needed for our stay. House was well stocked, warm and inviting. Took some long walks in the snow/ice, met some lovely neighbors who checked that we had enough to stay longer if needed. Sat in the hot tub, took long walks in the snow/ice and enjoyed a perfect long weekend. Would recommend.
