A gem of a place

Posted 31-Aug-2016
Pros: Comfortable feel, friendly staff, good breakfast,
Cons: The couch in our room was too low and poorly placed (under the TV screen and looking straight at the cupboard); couldn't get any of the Channels 9
Location: Brilliant location - one block back from the main street; next to RSL Club which had reasonably priced buffet meals
After a long day of travel, our first sighting of our room left us a little disappointed; but a good night's sleep changed things and we went on to enjoy thoroughly a five night stay. Very friendly staff; a lovely full breakfast included in the price; and a very comfortable ambience to the place. A jazz duet performing at breakfast on Sunday was an especial treat as was live music in the lounge on some evenings. The guest lounge, filled with comfortable lounge chairs and couches, was a great place to relax with a book. Our room (#8) was on the first floor and overlooked the carpark. I don't think the ground floor rooms would be as nice though. We called in to see a famous hotel in the main street nearby - we thought it stuffy and overly formal; by Blue, by contrast, was like a comfortable pair of old slippers ... we'll definitely stay there again.

Quirky and dated but really enjoyable stay.

Posted 22-Aug-2016
The hotel decor is very tired but the place is run by young people who are very friendly and helpful. It seems that redecoration is underway. The whole town is quirky so we saw the hotel as fitting in well. We would stay there again for sure. Some good live entertainment in the evening.

hotel vetuste

Posted 5-Aug-2016
A fuir absolument

Katoomba lodging.......

Posted 18-Jun-2016
Pros: Good breakfast provided. Staff helpful and pleasant. Hotel lounges comfortable as was the open fire in the lounge, warm and comforting. Food excellent
Cons: Demolish the bathroom and re-furbish. Put in decent heating.
Location: Location good close enough to the town centre.
Our room small and very cold. Fortunately it had a small column heater that needed to be on all day and night...The bathroom smelt manky. There were no shelves or bench space at all to put toiletries on. The tiny bathroom basin just sat on top of a very small cupboard that wobbled when touched, the door of which was hinged at an angle - no gap one side and a 2cm gap the other. The water outlet from the basin had a leak underneath the cupboard - the water ran onto the floor into the small drain in the centre of the room. The spring plug didn't work. The two windows had blinds but no curtain to cover the gaps around the blind when pulled down letting in the light from the brightly floodlit car park outside at night. (at waist level). When blinds pulled up to let in light during the day, everyone could see straight into the room. Toilet bowl dirty black colour at the bottom. Strip light over basin didn't work. Fortunately the beds were comfortable and had electric blankets.

Pros: it is central to katoomba and the beds were comfortable
Cons: get rid of that bleach smell and get a quieter exhaust fan. (the fan i kept on for hours to try to blow away the bleach smell)
the room smelt like bleach from the time we got there till we left but the beds were clean and comfortable.

Blue Mountains

Posted 24-Apr-2016
Pros: Location
Cons: Needs an update in fittings and a very good clean.
Location: Close to Blue Mountains and scenic world
Good location, but the room was dirty, the carpet had an iron burn in it and was coming up. Walls were dirty, no iron or board in the room, bathroom was mouldy and not clean. The family room was tiny, with filthy furniture including only 2 old seats and a coffee table. I would not recommend it.

Lovely comfortable hotel.

Posted 4-Dec-2015
Pros: Comfortable furnishings and bed! Friendliness and helpfulness of the staff. Situation within walking distance.
Location: The hotel is situated very nicely, within walking distance of the town centre, we also walked to the look out for the three sisters and scenic world.
A lovely two night stay at this very comfortable and accommodating hotel. The photos are very true to how the hotel actually is. We had music both nights we were there. We also had a meal which was very nice and plenty of it, the free breakfast was very nice.

Good breakfast

Posted 23-Nov-2015
This hotel is older and a bit worn, but couched as Victorian like most in the area. Close to The Gingerbread House and Echo Point. The full, hot English (or other) breakfast, cooked to order most days, and live music are entirely unique and redeeming. Family friendly too, but realize sound travels easily. If you're not looking for anything too fancy, give Hotel Blue a try.
