This beautiful, mountain home is in the perfect location to enjoy all of the best that Colorado has to offer. Enjoy the snow-capped views, amazing sunsets, crackling fire, and shooting stars under a clear night sky. Spot native wildlife including hummingbirds, chipmunks, deer, and an occasional elk or moose. This mountain getaway is perfect in any season for adventurous travelers. Escape the summer heat to the cool mountain air, or soak up the tranquil winter beauty of blanketing snow. PLEASE READ THE FINE PRINT CAREFULLY: \- If you bring more guests than you requested in your reservation you WILL BE evicted with no refund (sorry to be harsh about this but we have to be 100% accurate with our occupancy to maintain our rental permit, and our septic system). \-You will need a 4WD, high clearance vehicle October- May, and a comfort level with mountain driving to get to our remote home. If severe snowstorms are predicted, you will need to park above the house on a parking pad, and walk 50 yards down the driveway. Boots are needed. \-The house is at 9000 feet. Services are not always readily available, we get up to 500 inches of snow, there are no hotel type amenities, and it is a regular home, so things can break or go wrong unexpectedly. Cell phones often don't work, and we don't have cable TV or Netflix- this is a vacation for those who want to unplug. There may be dust on the ceiling fan, or ashes in the fireplace. If these are the kinds of things that will bother you, this is probably not a good fit. \-This is not a 5 star hotel experience. Reviews have a significant impact on our listing, and we want to make sure that you are fully informed so that we can provide a 5 star vacation experience. Eldora 13 miles/25 minutes Loveland 50 miles/65 minutes 60 miles/ 1.5 hours \---How far to Golden Gate State Park? 6 miles/15 minutes \---How far away are the neighbors? The house looks pretty much straight out towards the mountains. If you stand outside in front of the house, you can see 2 homes farther down the mountain about 150 yards. One is occupied full time, and the other is a vacation home. There is also a home on the other side of our driveway, about 100 yards from our home. There is a house further up the mountain that can be partially seen, depending on where you are standing outside. We have a fairly long drive, and it feels private. \---Can I bring my dog? Sorry, no pets. \---Will it snow? Often. Sometimes way more than other times and the driving can be challenging. \---Does the house have air conditioning? No. Even on the hottest summer days, it cools off at night. \---How are the driving conditions? It depends on the weather. Our neighborhood has hard packed dirt roads, and we have a paved driveway. One mile of the drive up the mountain is fairly steep. A 4WD high clearance vehicle is definitely needed in winter November-March, but we can have large dumps of snow as early as October and as late as May. Early and late snow melts fast and is easily plowed, but can cause travel delays. \---Does the house have cable, Netflix, TV plug in for more watching options....? No. Colorado has endless, amazing outdoor options, and we love to wear ourselves out during the day, disconnect from all of the electronics, and enjoy the hot tub, fireplace or fire pit, grilling out, and playing games in the evening. There is a large TV and DVD player for an occasional movie night. \---Is there Wi-Fi? Yes, but we have the basic package with limited data, so plenty for researching local trails, checking email, etc. but not enough for video streaming/movie watching. Again, we go there to unplug. We mostly used it as a home base and went out exploring nature during the day. This cabin is in a great location, go any direction and you will find something beautiful. It was wonderful to see the stars at night, watch the chipmunks and the hummingbirds zip around during the day. I felt very relaxed the whole time we were here. Not having cell phone signal is wonderful. It was the perfect weekend getaway.You are close to Golden Gate Canyon State Park, which has great hiking, as well as some other trail heads. If you need anything, or feel like going out to eat, Nederland isn't far away either. There were a few things that I think could use a little attention to make things even nicer. When we arrived the plants were really overgrown and at first we were worried we were at the wrong place because of that. Even just weed-eating or mowing them back a little bit from the house would have made a huge difference. The screen doors also need a little TLC. The open kitchen/dining/ family room was set up well for a weekend get away with family/friends. That’s why this property was special! It is remote and a little hard to get to but that was part of the charm. The Wi-Fi worked well, there were spices for anyone to use which was nice since we cooked a lot! The hot tub at night in the winter under the stars is why we chose this home and it didn’t disappoint. Just a disclaimer that the insurance policy you have to take out on top of the $100 dollar deposit seems like a lot but I guess perhaps some people abuse others’ homes. ##### Sara D. Not having tv was not an issue but limited internet was a bummer. Small collection of dvd's left little to do after sunset. I travel with a Roku Stick and usually pop it into an open hdmi port but did not have accessibility to the tv. The house is truly out in the middle of nowhere, which is exactly what we were looking for. There is absolutely no cell phone service, which is actually a very pleasant and welcome change. I have zero complaints about the rental but I am giving it an overall rating of four-stars because I wasn’t exactly thrilled about being forced to either buy the VRBO property protection plan or put up a $1,500 security deposit - even with the protection plan we were required to put up a $100 deposit. I have rented through VRBO many times and cannot recall ever having to do such a thing. If you don’t trust the people you’re renting to then maybe renting property isn’t something you should do. Feb 20, 2021 Liked: Check-in, location, listing accuracy Disliked: Cleanliness, communication #### RENTER BEWARE This rental has a gorgeous view of the mountains but the real entertainment starts when you get home and are accused of breaking things that were broke before you arrived. The cleaning is subpar and there is no 24-hour break between guests per COVID guidelines as advertised on their VRBO website. The rental requires you to purchase Damage and Liability Insurance with your reservation. I was accused of damaging a plastic blind without even asking me what happened. On our arrival, I opened the blinds the proper way, as described on notes left all over the house, and one of the panels fell off and was taped from the previous renter or housekeeper. I told the owner of the above and she immediately said, “no worries you have damage and liability insurance and I will bill it.” I told her that would be fraudulent as that is not what happened and I did not break the blind tab. The next day her husband, who is an attorney, emailed me that he was keeping my security deposit and billing me for plastic blinds that a "dog chewed up" and for and an ash bucket that was missing. I never brought a dog on vacation and that was the first I had heard of an ash bucket missing. That would be the last thing that I could fit in my suitcase. I contacted VRBO and the Insurance company who both stated the owner was not able to keep my security deposit and they would have to file a claim for the blind through the insurance company. As of this comment, written three weeks later, I am still waiting to get my security deposit back from the owner and VRBO “filed a claim.” I never broke any blind and this home needs work and this appears to be the owner’s way of fixing things up or pocketing the money for fraudulent claims. I have rented numerous places on VRBO and never dealt with an owner like this. Bottom line is trusting the negative reviews, only communicate with owners through VRBO website to have documentation trail and video tape prior to unpacking suitcase and prior to locking the door when you leave. ##### Stacy W.
