A nice hotel
The hotel location is great. A friendly receptionist. Unfortunately, parking is not available actually. The closest parking is a little strange. It does not calculate 24 hour parking, it calculates two days and total cost was too much. I reserved a room for three people and it was not prepared. There was a mistake or the management is not great.

The hotel is in a great location, though if coming by car, unloading/loading and parking could be difficult. The hotel’s lot was full, so we had to park at the lot nearby, which I cannot recommend. Breakfast was excellent.

The staff was very slow and disinterested. Many times no one on staff was at the Reception Desk. There were staff members walking around the hotel, but they were not at Reception and not assisting guests. Often there was a line of guests waiting for service at Reception. In addition there were elevator problems. One elevator never worked during our stay, so all guests appeared to be using the one available elevator or WALKING THE STAIRS.

Room 106 was affected by noise perhaps the dishwasher in the kitchen or a Washing machine - suggest avoid this room if you are looking for quiet. No tea/coffee facilities in room. Front desk said would be provided upon request. Don’t feel that for the money this should be ‘at request’... no chance of late check out even 30mins without an additional €10. Again, disappointing. Best thing is how close you are to Palace Park & city Fußgängerzone

The Hotel is easy to reach and a good alternative for a reasonably priced stay close to Berlin. Check in was fast and efficient, the roome had all you needed for a night and was very quiet. good to know: as a guest you also receive a day ticket for public transport!

13 day stay for physics conference and job search
Very, very good location in a beautiful city. Also, conveniently located near public transportation. I would definitely stay here again! The only complaint would be that my room was right above the bench where people would smoke, so I couldn’t open my window too often. There also were guests in nearby rooms that would smoke by their windows, but it would drift into their rooms and the hallway.

Sometimes it’s the little things that differentiate a ho-hum hotel from a superior one. The Maxx offers many excellent qualities, including a location precious few steps away from San Souci Park, an exceptionally quiet street for good sleep, and elegantly appointed rooms. Two things disappointed us in our stay; the restaurant did not seem prepared for dinner guests when we arrived. Only a few small tables by the bar were not labeled as reserved, even though there were only two customers present, neither of whom appeared to be dining. Further, we stood around for several minutes, expecting to see a host, a waiter, or even just a busboy. Finally we gave up and had dinner around the corner. Second disappointment was regarding the cost of breakfast at €19. I understand the Maxx offers a breakfast buffet, which may be very good value, but for guests with modest appetites, the entrance price is just not approachable. Again, we decided against eating at the hotel. It was a shame that such a magnificent property has significant flaws. Stay there if you’re visiting San Souci, but maybe plan to eat elsewhere.

ripped off single room at deluxe double rate
I had to add on an additional night to my orginal booking this was at the beginning of the bookingand I had to have a single room. On arrival the receptionist said she had a lovely room for me and I would not have to move. I soon realised the room for the three days was a single and hence I was being overcharged for the other 2 nights. On asking receptionist she originally denied this then said they could not refund the difference as expedia who owned hotels.com.au would not allow it. Hence I demanded to move rooms. I was given one without a working phone so had to move again. The hotel advertised the deluxe rooms had airconditioned NO room in this hotel has airconditioning. This bit has gone from website but it its place is ceiling fans again NO room has ceiling fans you can even see none in the photos. for For a deluxe room the single towel for showering was the thinnest Ive ever had in a hotel. There is the old system of shampoo fixed to wall so each person uses the same squeeze bottle. Ther was NO face cloths and with the coffee machine and shower gel in old unit 2 cups but only one teaspoon. From talking to people it appears the only difference between the top two rates is a coffee machine with 2 cups and one teaspoon. Bring your own and stay in cheaper unit. There are no safes in room and I was made to feel I was being difficult when I asked for a safe in the office. sarah abs sophie and the young males on reception did their best to help me management pls review ad.

There were 2 problems here. One was renovations - lots of noise starting at 6:30 a.m. when it sounded like workers were dropping wheelbarrow loads of brick debris off a roof, and very limited options for food at the hotel due to kitchen renovations. The second was terrible Internet connectivity (a combination of broader problems within Potsdam perhaps and 'end of the hall' syndrome, which is simply inadequate design), literally the worst I've even seen in a western nation over the last decade. If a hotel is going to charge full price for rooms, they need to provide full disclosure regarding renovations - this hotel should have been closed while this work was in process.

Really perfectly located between the Dutch Quarter and Schloss Sanssouci. Very pleasant staff. Note that none of the guest rooms has air conditioning.

Excellent location, excellent breakfast. Room was more loke a 2 star hotel- not very clean, stained carpet, mildewy bathroom, septic smell in room, shower slow to drain. Looks like they have not replaced carpets or furniture for many many years. Adding a bed for a child xost $40 extra, which made for an expensive night. The breakfast and location almost made up for the 2 star room.

Good breakfast, not so good parking facility
Breakfast was good enough to keep another day running. The entrance of parking facility is so narrow and very dark which would make most of drivers hesitate going in. And the reception lady is not polite at all and she seems very inpatient.

Traditional hotel close to amenities
Positives. Very close to the San Souci parks and palaces as well as bars and restaurants. Easy 15 minute walk to Charlottenhof train station to get to Berlin and Schonefeld. Staff and breakfast were superb. Size of the rooms were generous. Negatives. Rooms a little outdated, carpets need to be replaced as they have that 'old carpet smell'. I'm annoyed that they denied my request for a quiet room (booked months in advance) but instead, probably had the noisiest room available with the street noise of people, delivery vehicles and the bells at 6am of the church nearby. Would have given a higher score if they respected my request.

Nice hotel close to Potsdam University
Nice and professional run Hotel. Benefits from great location with excellent restaurants just nearby. Nice staff. Free Wifi is very poor. Rooms are big but need more modern interior. Wellness and Spa area needs more modern style.

Beautiful location and area
Pleasant Hotel in a good location - staff extremely helpful and charming and nothing was too much trouble. Don't know if it helped that I can speak German. The breakfast was very comprehensive and of a high quality - including the gluten free cereal and rolls. The beds were of a good quality if not a little hard for my own personal preference. We ended up here by accident , but am so glad that we did.

Old World charm
A lovely hotel with old-world charm. Gracious staff. The location is excellent, between the Sans Souci Palace park and the old town. Easy to get to by city bus from the train station. Nice lunchtime special in the hotel's restaurant for 7.50 Euros. Wifi was decent.

Time for a renovation is NOW not in 2018
I was looking forward to my stay at the Steigenberger Potsdam due to the reputation of the company and previous experiences in other cities, however this stay was a let down on so many levels, especially when it comes to cleanliness and comforts. The bathroom was in really bad shape, with way to much wear, mold and dirt for a 4 star property. The hallway carpet and hallway in general was really run down. The lovely front desk staff made up for some. However when told renovations are coming in 2018/19, that may be a little late.

Will definitely return
My stay in the hotel was absolutely pleasant. The staff are very helpful. The room is well decorated and elegant and the bed is comfy. We enjoyed the tasty breakfast in the courtyard very much. Sauna is another great highlight and we had a great time. Already looking forward to staying in this hotel again.
