THIS IS NOT A HOTEL

Posted 9-Apr-2017
Pros: The beds were good and the family room is large.
Cons: The WiFi only worked on our first night and was down for the next three days.
Location: The local area looks a bit sketchy, but it's perfectly safe. If you're into clubbing, the world-famous Tresor club is just up the road.
The first thing to realise about A&O Berlin Mitte is that it is NOT a hotel - this is a youth hostel, despite the name of the outfit. You should therefore be prepared for lots of noise, running around in corridors overnight, slamming doors, and "hilarious" games of knock-down-ginger around midnight. And if you can handle literally hundreds of loud teenagers first thing in the morning, the breakfast buffet is reasonably good value too. That said, the family rooms are spacious and clean, and the beds are very comfortable. The shower cubicle is quite small, but having a separate toilet was very handy. If it wasn't for the noise, this would be the perfect budget base for exploring Berlin.

Mediocre

Posted 14-Nov-2016
Location: I only chose A&O because it was half-way between Alexanderplatz and another location I was visiting.
A&O is an older hostel, and it shows. Compared to other hostels in Mitte and area (Circus, Generator, 180) it's a dinosaur; however, if all you need is a roof over your head A&O will do the trick. That said: cleaning staff were in the habit of barging into my room (hotel side, not hostel) each morning at 9:30 or 9:45. I also ran into trouble after I asked to store my bag for the afternoon after I checked out and their very limited pay-to-use locker system simply didn't work. I was not the only guest experiencing trouble and the staff were either unwilling or unable to help. Front desk service also tended to be slow as there was only ever one person at the counter as far as I could tell. After seeing some of the other more modern hostels in Berlin I will not be staying at A&O again if I return.

Noisy hostel

Posted 28-Sep-2016 on Hotels
I stayed at A&O for about a week in September this year. I booked a room with private restroom. It was overpriced, internet was bad, room was pretty small and the most annoying thing to me was, the noisy. People were super loud at night, it was very difficult to get some sleep.

EXCELLENT VALUE FOR MONEY

Posted 25-Sep-2016
Excellent. All those people who complain so much, forgot the fact that they were looking for the cheapest option when they found a nice affordable hostel. Then they check out and feel as picky and hard to please as Madonna. Next time you want the best of the best, just go on and spend 500 euros per night, and you'll get it. If you can't afford it, then keep it low key and be humble and grateful. Best wishes

Youth hostel, central location

Posted 11-Sep-2016
Clean but very small room with 2 beds, 1 wooden chair and no table. Free Wi-Fi of good quality. Active bar and a very busy, overloaded reception with nice but overworked receptionists. It's OK for a youth hostel but they should not pretend being a hotel (and pricing accordingly).

Too expensive compared to the location and facilit

Hostel was o.k, staff friendly, wifi in room working well and I would say the atmosphere was great for youth/teenagers.However nothing really was going on surround the hostel. It's not really in the middle of the city. Also last 2 days from our many days stay, price increased to €90 which made us moved somewhere better.
