Booked a night at the Grand Central post lockdown to celebrate our wedding anniversary, booked through Expedia and paid when booking, when checking into the hotel we were then charged again, there was some confusion, it was later sorted.
We booked one of the deluxe rooms, with it being a special occasion and wanting a good view, however our room looked out onto a building site packed with workmen, we had to keep the curtain closed. Tried to call the front desk a couple of times to get some information about breakfast but the phone wasn’t answered. The room was nice and spacious, large sized bed but the cleanliness just isn’t up to scratch - there was hair in the bathroom, toothpaste stains in the sink, dirty mirrors. Even though there is air conditioning in the rooms it was like a sauna, we barely slept with the heat, there was also no bottled water provided in the rooms.
We visited the Observatory during our stay, the views are stunning and they have an impressive drinks menu. The service just isn’t up to standard though, the staff are friendly but just a bit too informal for the setting - “alrighty guys” “can I get yous ones anything else”. Can’t comment on the food as we didn’t eat in the hotel. Concierge service was excellent and very attentive, they definitely provided the service expected of the hotel.
All in all it was just alright, we were both a bit disappointed, this is our second visit to a Hastings Hotel and think there are better options available.
