![Jaksic's Tower was originally built between the 11th and 15th centuries. Its current from dates from 1937.  When the foundations of the nearby Chapel of Saint Petka were being built, bones of Serbian soldiers who died defending Belgrade during WWI were unearthed. They were moved to a specially built ossuary under the tower.

![Situated in Central Belgrade, Tašmajdan Park's history longs to Roman Empire. Stones were extracted from this park, hence Taš (meaning stone in Turkish) and majdan (meaning mining in Turkish). Main attraction at the park is the beautiful St. Marko Church, the second largest church in Belgrade. ![This church is dedicated to Saint Sava, who was the founder of the Serbian Orthodox Church, and an important figure in Serbian history. Construction began on the 10 May 1935, although was halted after the invasion of Yugoslavia during WWII. "We had an overnight layover in Belgrade and booked Hotel Mar last-minute when we landed through Expedia. As soon as I called to arrange airport transportation, the front desk representative answered with, “Hello Mrs. Marberry,” which immediately impressed me. Although the shuttle wasn’t available at that moment, he carefully explained how to get a taxi from the airport without getting scammed, which I truly appreciated. When we arrived, he was just as professional in person. The hotel lobby was beautiful and spotless. We enjoyed having a drink in the lobby bar, and the waitress was incredibly nice and welcoming — a perfect way to unwind after traveling. Our room was clean, thoughtfully themed, and extremely comfortable. After settling in, we grabbed a bite to eat, and the same gentleman at the front desk arranged a taxi to and from the restaurant for us — excellent service from start to finish. The price was excellent, especially for the level of service and quality we received. Great accommodations, outstanding customer service, and only about 12 minutes from the airport.
