Spectacular Ocean and Mt. Views! If you are looking for something off the beaten path, you have found it! Out at the northern tip of Cape Breton Island, Nova Scotia, the cottage is located at St. Margaret's village, in Bay St. Lawrence. From the 8x28 foot front deck you have a panoramic, unobstructed, undeveloped view as the sun sets into the ocean. In season, you can enjoy the local lobster or snow crab caught in the bay in front of you. Not far off the Cabot Trail, the cottage is a good base for golf at Highland Links in Ingonish (one of the top-rated courses in the world), whale watching or deep sea fishing from the nearby fisherman's wharf or the Hike the Highlands Festival. Cape Breton Highlands National Park is just 10 miles away where there are hiking trails and other activities in the summer. Our family spots at least one moose and one bear at this park every year! It is a thrill for the kids! Right in the village is a friendly community center with internet access (as well as ping pong for the kids and a basketball hoop). There is a local grocery with all the basics. Right near the community center is an ice cream stand that is great for a quick dinner as well. It is a birdwatchers paradise. Watch the eagles soar, the guillemots fly in and out of the cliffs below, or the gannets dive into the ocean from the cottage. You might even see the occasional pod of whales in the bay while you sit relaxing or reading on the deck. The cottage is cute simple but adorable. Comfortable and cozy. With views from every window stunning. At night the stars shone so bright it was mesmerizing. Day by day night by night the channel marker off the coast sounded like a mournful whale. It became a calming feature you wanted and got very use to. Now being away from it,it is really missed. The mezmerizing sound is in the past. But hopefully will be heard again in the future. Stunning views in all types of weather and the charming cottage is perfectly set up for a week or longer stay. We hike, blueberry pick, whale watch (have spotted from the deck many times), fish, golf kayak, swim and enjoy the local restaurants. We will be back (again)! ##### Stephanie C. Is the perfect place to unwind. The manager was very understanding when we were late with our second payment. Thankyou! We were disappointed not to be able to walk to the top of the bluff in front of the cottage. The posted picture is misleading. Otherwise, a great stay!! ##### Philip R. The location is perfect for an East coast experience, and the cabin is simple and very comfortable with all of the basics covered…it is the exact balance that we want to unplug and unwind, and we will certainly will continue to cherish our time there for years to come!! I even signed up for an extra day. The place had everything I needed, and communication was excellent. The view was gorgeous, and my pup loved the mowed patch out back for spontaneous fetch sessions. Cabot Landing blew his little Chocolate Lab mind! The first thing I did when I got home was try to figure out when I could get back there. ##### Don K. We loved the location and the small fishing village where the property is located is so beautiful. I just can't say enough about the area. Secluded, very clean and a more than adequate kitchen will make your stay enjoyable. We enjoyed all of the sight seeing to do right in the bay outside the home. Whales, seals, bald eagles, birds, rabbits and boats of all sizes are always coming or going. I would recommend buying a nice pair of binoculars as I sat outside for hours just watching the ocean at a distance. House furnishings are amicable and the beds were semi comfortable for our expectations. Just remember, you are paying for the seclusion so you will be a great distance drive wise from many of the places on the island which was perfect for us. Sydney etc are close to a 3 hour drive and Cheticamp was close to 90 minutes. Great places to eat in Cape North and Meat cove had a wonderful lobster roll. Thanks again ##### Eric C. It was the most wonderful holiday. The cottage is perfect (amazing views, comfy beds, great water pressure, fully stocked with the necessities) and the area is exceptionally beautiful. You can wake up to the sunrise and watch the sunset from the back deck. The cottage is surrounded by wildflowers, hares, mountains, birds of prey and various other creatures. There is a (fantastic) whale watching boat tour that leaves from the harbor, which is about 5 minutes from the cottage. There is great food and good grocery options about 20 minutes drive away from the cottage. The beaches and coast are beautiful and there is tons to do in the National Park, also very very nearby. The wifi has also been upgraded since some previous posts and was super fast and reliable. There's no Italian marble in the bathroom. If you want to cook a huge dinner for guests, you're pretty much out of luck. There's no huge TV or luxury living room, and it's not in a swanky neighborhood. This has something much more valuable than any of those things: seclusion. I stayed here at the end of October. It took me over 3 hours to get from Cheticamp because of an early-season snowstorm. The next day I sat looking out the kitchen window at hailstorms, snow squalls and even a couple waterspouts go by. The little house creaked and groaned. I felt like I was at the end of the earth. But it was warm and safe and I could finally concentrate on my writing. My dog Auggie and I loved going to Cabot Landing beach, and had a bunch of apples from the trees along the driveway. We also liked exploring the little ATV trails around the house that go down to the harbor. At night, you can see the lights from the tankers and freighters going through the St. Lawrence Seaway. Meghan is an exemplary host and is quick to respond to inquiries. The only thing I didn't like about her is that she wouldn't sell me this gem of a property because it was '...in her family for generations..." or some such nonsense . Anyway, this place is truly special. I hope to visit it someday in the summer when the restaurants and other facilities are open. ##### Don K.
