Hotel is very well located within the historic district facing on the same plaza as the Duomo (get ready for many, many staircases throughout the area). Parking (which is free) is at a sister property outside the historic area, a good 10-15 minute ride via an on-demand shuttle van. Our room, a jr. suite, had an older vibe - stone walls, older furniture but was clean and had operable windows with a view. We dined one night in the upscale hotel restaurant - food was good if not memorable. The breakfast buffet was typical of hotels of similar quality. Staff was helpful in answering questions and helping us design a walking route. Outside bar was closed during our early November visit. A good choice for a Matera visit.

Very nice hotel, but unfortunately it was affected by a theft in the room. The electronic safe was opened during our absence and money was stolen. No cameras are installed in the hotel except for 1 at the reception

Palazzo Gattini fa accoglienza da 15 anni e tutto lo staff lavora ogni giorno per rendere i clienti felici del loro soggiorno a Matera. L'evento che lei menziona non è stato accertato ovvero nessuno sa se la cassaforte è stata usata e se, realmente, all'interno erano presenti i valori dichiarati. Ci spiace siate giunti a queste conclusioni senza le dovute verifiche nonostante l'hotel abbia garantito la disponibilità a ricorrere all'assicurazione. Siamo certi che Palazzo Gattini, anche in questo caso, potrà trovare una soluzione in questa situazione.

Wspaniałe miejsce z cudownym widokiem na zabytkową cześć miasta oraz jaskinie. Niesamowita obsługa - bardzo przyjacielska i pomocna. Bardzo dobre śniadanie. Restauracja hotelowa na najwyższym poziomie serwuje idealnie skomponowane dania. Pokój z balkonem z pięknym widokiem na cześć miasta. Wszystko co potrzebne jest na miejscu. Bardzo polecam

Palazzo Gattini is nothing less than superb ! All the personnel are fantastic and went out of their way to make everything we asked a reality . Donato , Carmen , Teresa and Michele the driver are beyond incredible ! Great assets to Palazzo Gattini . We will come back for sure !!!!

Michelin restaurant, phenomenal views, personalized service, great spa/pool, and unbeatable location…..there was nothing this hotel didn’t have. Historic place with good service
Great place in the middle of a historic area. A little hard to drive there, but expected, as it’s in a central piazza. Wonderful time, and historic area.

The staff were dismissive and frankly rude. We arrived and we greeted with ‘you can’t park there’. A new member of staff showed us to our room who didn’t know when questioned anything about the hotel. A room for 2 people was booked and had 2 single beds. When we requested if the beds could be pushed together they simple said no. We further questioned them and it was suddenly done. The room only has air conditioning when. Card holder was placed in the reader in the room. Therefore in august all the rooms are I intorably hot. This is if the air conditioning even works. We complained 4 times the AC didn’t work when the crd holder was in the room and we were told they control the temperature centrally. After a sleepless night with multiple complaints they simply said the room was not too hot and that it must be us. Rude, dismissive and really not worth the money. The property is great and the location is fantastic but please please don’t expect any good service and the rooms are far too hot in the summer. Avoids like the plague.

A short luxury break
The Palazzo Gattini is very centrally located and close to the cathedral. The view from the roof terrace is stunning! Breakfast was very good indeed, particularly the fresh orange juice and eggs cooked to order. The staff were very helpful and friendly. Although we didn't eat dinner in the hotel (preferring to experience what Matera had to offer), I would thoroughly recommend this hotel for a short luxury break.

Wow .,. Exceptional on every level
Exceptional ... from the moment we got picked up from the station and during the whole stay. The hotel is truly beautiful and nothing has been left overlooked. Was fortunate enough to be able to use the private pool and sauna and it was something I will remember forever. We had pre dinner drinks on the terrace and the view of the sassi at night is breathtaking. My only regret is that we did not make a reservation for dinner on the terrace and they were fully booked. Definitely next time as I will be back. Grazie millie per tutto xx. Ps: I can truly understand why they won best hotel of the year in 2018 ... well done!!!

Great hotel
I have been to over 50 countries, always traveling 1st class. This hotel and stay is at the top of my list. The area of Matera is extraordinary, get a guide through the hotel, ask for MICHAEL. I had a physical problem which caused us to cut our trip short. The woman at the desk arranged, for the return of our rental, transportation to the nearest airport (Bari) air plane to Milan, hotel in Milan and travel back to Miami,while all we did was go to lunch and agree to stay one more night in Matera

Business Hotel?
Nice hotel in beautiful square. Being refurbished on the outside. I was there in very early May and the weather was nice. Nice enough that the aircon in the room should have been able to lower the temperature below 19 deg. Sadly this wasn't the case and my night wasn't as comfortable as I had hoped. Also the shower in the room couldn't decide to flay my skin or freeze my bones. I mentioned both things to the receptionist.........

very nice staff, good locatoin, excellent breakfast but our room was not special although the prices are high. I suspect some rooms have been remodeled but ours was not. No real good places to store clothes, poor dull lighting no desk

Problematice Aircon
The air-conditioning did not function (it is centrally controlled). Impossible to sleep without it. I am under the impression that even if it did, the unit is too small for the room. Night clerk unable to do anything about it on the excuse that her computer could not log on. When speaking to staff the next morning requesting not to be billed for a sleepless night, they advised they could not do anything and assured me that they would have the manager call me. No one ever called. Lousy service for a hotel that is by far the most expensive in town.

Fantastic Hotel. A treasure.
The staff were fantastic. Such a pleasure to stay in this hotel, nothing was a problem. The rooms were beautiful, breakfast was delicious and the setting was quiet with great views. Would absolutely recommend this hotel.

Exceptional Hotel
We had difficulty finding Palazzo Gattini as there are few signs, but the moment we stepped inside we knew our 2 night stay would be special. Theresa welcomed us as if we were royalty......we were immediately given upgraded rooms (we were 2 couples)......they were large, had every amenity, even the drinks in the mini bar were complimentary......breakfast with Pina the next morning was awesome! She proudly did a tour of the 5 food stations and then took our individual orders for eggs, omelettes etc.......she made us her specialty......toast, spread with the freshest ricotta cheese and covered with orange honey.......what a delicacy! Theresa, our host, had arranged a charming, informative guide, Michele, for us.......what a fascinating tour we had for almost 3 hours in a town that must be seen to be believed. Truly unique! Easy to see why Matera has been designated as Unesco site and cultural city of the year in Europe in 2019. Palazzo Gattini lives up to its 5 stars and more! One more important plus......once you park the car, you explore the streets and hidden passageways on foot.

Beautiful hotel in heart of Matera
Delightful small, quiet hotel in centre of Matera. Great for exploring this amazing town. Easier to find than we expected, and car parking service is good. Hotel is a maze, with lots of stairs so not good for those with poor mobility. Rooms were fabulous. We didn't want to leave. Breakfast was fantastic with brilliant service. Restaurant was however closed (due to holiday!?) and reception staff a bit overwhelmed.

Beautiful hotel!
This is one of the best hotels we've experienced. The architecture seemed more like a museum or cathedral. The staff especially in the breakfast area were gracious and attentive. The views of the fascinating town of Matera are great, too.

A beautiful hotel perfect location and amazing service.breakfast was to die for and the staff amazingly helpful. Only downside was no bar after 9pm but plenty of choices less than five minutes away

Really luxurious hotel right by the Duomo
Great access to both Sassi & new town. Enjoined beautiful view& delicious foods. We walked about 8 miles per day up & down. Piazza Vittorio Veneto is the fun place to hang around in the evening with family.

Hidden Gem
Make sure you contact the hotel to get directions, the area is heavily pedestrianised but well worth getting there. Unobtrusive entrance belies the understated grandeur within. Excellent, sympathetic modernisation has created a hidden gem. My only small gripe would be the lack of control of the air conditioning which was controlled by the reception desk. Breakfast was an added bonus.

We found the hotel after some difficulty and the valet took our car to a nearby garage . Staff very helpful and friendly and we were upgraded free to a suite with fabulous views over the sassi caves. Breakfast was very good and we will be back !!!!

Stylish hotel
Phone the hotel to get directions as your sat nav may take you to completely the wrong place. But when you arrive it is fabulous. The staff are extremely friendly and helpful. We were upgraded to a junior suite at check-in. The hotel is steeped in history but has been stylishly renovated. The view from our terrace was beautiful. Breakfast is fantastic. The hotel is centrally located. We booked a guide at reception and would recommend that. We could not fault anything.

I have nothing bad thing to say about this hotel! Everything was just great! Good location, good breakfast, nice staffs and a beautiful room. My husband and I stayed two nights and we enjoyed every minutes of our time there.

Simply elegant, with the right touches of native stone and midevil Europe to modern minimalist design that blends perfectly into its location, in this jewel of a fortified city from old Europe. Service could be taken up one notch, but otherwise a prime choice.
