A lovely property. All is run professionally and courteously. A wonderful alternative to the usual (upscale or otherwise ) string of corporate hotel chains. Fabulous location. Excellent hotel. We loved the daily access to the spa area. Pay the extra for breakfast. It is well worth it! The location is steps away from lots of dining, shopping , and sight seeing. We would definitely stay at H1898 again when in Barcelona!

We checked in online prior to arrival as per Hotel request to speed up process. Upon arrival we had to check in again because they will not accept foreign driver license as ID even though their site accepted DL. Be prepared to show Passport. I booked our room with Expedia; selected a room with a bathtub. The room assigned did not have a bathtub! I immediately went back to front desk; staff person informed me that the “Classic” does not have bathtubs. Not sure if Expedia or Hotel site was wrong but the room details on selection page clearly listed a bathtub. The staff person provided a “free” update to a “Superior “ room with a tub. Unfortunately the new room overlooked La Rambla and was positioned over the Metro; very noisy! Felt like we were being punished for requesting a room with a bathtub.

Everything was wonderful - staff friendly and helpful, location perfect because you walk one way and you’re on la Rambla but walk another and you’re eating paella at wonderful Alegoria, coffee at Dalstons, walk further to the Gothic quarter and metro two min away. Rooftop pool and bar so perfect for an evening sunset, Camilia and the whole crew up there are so professional and lovely!!

Just perfect all around. While only 20 off La Ramblas, once inside the hotel you might as well be 20 miles away. It’s a great combination, being in the middle of high energy Barcelona, and also able to retreat to the calm, understated elegance of 1898. You will not regret staying here.
