Really liked our room. Chose the grand suite which was very spacious and clean. Quite affordable by North American standards if you prepay and add cancellation insurance.
It would be very challenging to find this level of accomodation with breakfast for less than $80/night which we did.
Very good breakfast to start the day with western and asian food choices. If you come with an expectation of fatty bacon, sausages, waffles and pancakes, you will be disappointed. It's different, but healthier.
Staff, like Wilson, was very helpful in assisting us with our bags, taxis and excursions.
Location of the property to malls like Chamchuri and Samyan was across the street. Even MBK mall was walkable (20-30 minutes) once you get accustomed to the 30 degree plus heat. Most major attractions (like chinatown, Asiatique, river cruises and the high end shopping districts) are accessible with a short taxi ride. Tuck tucks are a blast but may not be for the faint of heart. Area around the Mandarin is safe to walk around, but it is a very heavy traffic area in the day time, with lots of cars, motorbikes and tuck tucks.
Great place to be if you like the hustle and bustle of Bangkok city.
The Mandarin is a great place to stay if you seek quiet refuge after a busy day.
