The problem I had/have is how the place is advertised on both Expedia and its own official site. Take extra special care when booking your room. Unlike every other holiday I've booked where rooms are styled in very much the same way, each room can be totally different.
Before I go in to a sob story I have my hands up, this was my mistake which is why I paid the two night penalty having stayed at the resort for just under an hour.
At first, and second, glance I made the fatal error of assuming a two bedroom, two story residence was the wonderful picture they have plastered everywhere. The classic Thai style duplex pool villa. As it turned out when we got there, they put us in an apartment block resembling that of a typical City break rather than a paradise island. There is not one external photo of this building on either site.
The General Manager understood our concerns and kindly offered to move us to what we did see in the picture but due to the Chinese New Year it was very busy and it was their last room which smelt of heavy smoke. Indeed, this is not the hotel's fault and both rooms were very well equipped.
My only gripe was that if we took that room, the people who had originally booked it would have been put in our previously allocated room. Just made me wonder if that was what happened to us.
