Douglas Fir lost our Reservation "in the Computer". I get that mistakes happen, but the person working the front desk was total jerk about it. At the least you could apologize for it, but the guy was angry like it was my fault that this happened. It took us 25 minutes to check in. Also, the Murphy bed in room 400 is dangerously broken. Only one side has springs and it does not keep the bed up very well. It almost came crashing down on my daughter's head! Very dangerous because the bed is very heavy. We ended up leaving the murphy bed down the whole time so that it would not hurt someone while they were walking past. It's too bad because everything else was fine.

Quaint and enjoyable. Not the most luxurious vibe but that's not its style. More rustic and home'like. Kitchen is a nice benefit as it cuts down on cost. Very kid friendly. Huge and impressive play zone and the water slides are fast and fun. Enjoyed our stay and we'll be coming back

Rooms were good and beds were comfortable. Having the murphy bed instead of the pull out couch gave a better sleeping experience. Pool and hot tube were okay but it was disappointing that the outdoor hot tube was closed.

Liked that the property was not in Banff. Disliked: The suite was very run down for instance: 1. The shower head was spaying on the ceiling. This has been going on for awhile since there was a stain on the ceiling. As well the bathroom had a musty smell. 2. The suite had all very old furnishings that needed upgrading. Foe instance dark rug had a stain on it. Kitchen table had a piece out of it's veneer top. Cracked floor tiles by the front door. Weatherstripping needed replacing at the front door since you could see daylight. 3. The wood would not light for the fireplace even though there was enough kindling and paper to get it started. Behind living room couch a big cabinet which could only be opened if the couch move. Patio door did not open. No extra blankets in the room.

Douglas Fir is at the base of Tunnel Mountain, it's out of downtown but they give you free bus tickets so you can take that 5 min ride into downtown Banff. The place needs a complete Reno - the carpets haven't been changed since 1980. Every room has a real fireplace! They replenish the logs. The patios facing the mountain must be great in the summer - quiet private oasis. The shampoo etc... still in little bottles as they haven't adopted what a lot of hotels have done: large bottles affixed to the wall- but soaps of poor quality - you need an entire bottle to clean your hair. No food store nearby so you need to check into your room with your groceries. Full kitchens. Water park is great for kids, hot tub finally worked on the last days of our visit. The outdoor one was still out of order. For the price we paid, it was fine...it gave the kids great views of nature, a comfortable place to return to after a day of skiing.

Staff are nice and there's room cleaning service everyday. Furnish is shabby and the property condition is worn-out.
