Also, the air conditioning in each bedroom was very welcome during the heatwaves. João was very kind to show us everything we needed in the house and in the region... do not miss the small vineyard just 5 minutes away with their excellent white and rosé wines! It is absolutely worth it going there! Only problem was being able to initially find the property as I had difficulty driving and looking at google maps at the same time and not being conversant in Portuguese. Our favorites were the patio and day trips to many stunning nearby towns and villages. My daughter and i enjoyed wineries and the train ride through the douro wine region was breathtaking. You do need a car to get there and be able to get around. The property owner was very helpful with a personal introduction to the house and many tips on how to get around and special places to visit. ##### Joy B. Peaceful, serene, family orientated house, beautiful and outstanding location. When in the Douro Valley, it is like a vacation on top of a vacation. We enjoyed our stay. The house was great \~ clean, opened, large, great view, fabulous outside deck to sit and enjoy the church bells that ring over the valley while enjoying the outstanding view. The home is spacious and well appointed with amenities. The place is a great location to stay if you plan to explore the Douro valley with its many vineyards, wineries and small towns and villages with its igrejas, quintas and miradouros. João took care to give us a walkthrough of his home, a few of his recommendations and then wished us a good stay. His recommendations didn't disappoint. Wow the pictures could not capture the views from the decks they were amazing day and night .... the best morning coffee place and a awesome way to start our day ! The house had everything we needed but we didn’t use much... if we were there longer I’m sure we could have made use of more. The place was clean and had lots of towels and bedding. Make sure to leave time to go down the 222 it is an amazing drive Do not miss it !!! It is spectacular. The couple was great and they were easy to get intouch with via text or call. The house is so well equipped and comfortable, it feels like a home which is loved. The hosts were charming, generous and helpful always available to assist with suggestions. One needs a car as the terrain is steep and the property is quite isolated. The train station is 10 minutes drive away with regular trains to Porto or the other direction. Somewhat isolated but exactly what we wanted for a lengthy stay of 8 weeks to explore the Douro region and the cultural and historic centres of northern Portugal. Hosts Joào & Orlanda were welcoming, warm and friendly. During our stay we had regular communication with them as they queried if all our needs were being met. Superb hosts and just lovely people.
