Simple, bright, and full of character, it offers an old-school beach holiday feel where days revolve around swimming, sunshine, and time outdoors. This is an easy, relaxed base for guests who value location, charm, and uncomplicated seaside living. The Space: Originally built in the 1920s, Sunshine Cottage has retained the character of a traditional beach bach, with timber floors, natural light, and a relaxed, lived-in feel. The open plan living and kitchen area keeps things simple and functional, with French doors opening out to the garden and outdoor dining area, making it easy to move between inside and outside throughout the day. The cottage looks out across Onetangi Bay, and the setting encourages slow mornings, barefoot beach trips, and afternoons spent outdoors rather than inside. The kitchen is practical and well suited to simple holiday meals, while the living space offers a comfortable place to unwind after time in the sun. The bedroom wing sits within the main house, while the bathroom is accessed externally via the back deck, in keeping with the original bach design. This layout suits guests who appreciate the character and simplicity of traditional coastal homes. Sunshine Cottage is positioned at the quieter eastern end of Onetangi Beach, offering easy access to swimming and long beach walks while feeling slightly removed from the busier central stretch. Bedding Configuration: Bedroom 1: Double bed Bedroom 2: Single over double bunk Pets considered on request only and must be approved in writing. Guest Access: Guests have full use of the main house, garden, and outdoor areas. Please note the bathroom is accessed via the exterior deck. Check in is from 2:00 pm. Check out is by 10:30 am. Early or late check in may be available by arrangement and may incur a fee. The Neighborhood: Sunshine Cottage is located on one of Waiheke’s most loved stretches of coastline at Onetangi Beach, known for its wide sandy bay, calm swimming conditions, and long open shoreline. The beach sits just across the road, making it easy to head down for swims, walks, and relaxed afternoons by the water. Several well known beachfront dining spots are within walking distance, including Charlie Farley’s, Three Seven Two, and Ki Māha. The Onetangi Valley is a short drive away and is home to popular vineyards such as Casita Miro, Obsidian, Stonyridge, Te Motu, Tantalus Estate, Wild on Waiheke, and The Heke Brewery. Ostend Village is nearby for supermarkets, the Saturday market, and everyday essentials, while Oneroa Village offers additional dining, galleries, and shopping. Getting Around: Buses run from Onetangi, stopping near major vineyards including The Heke, before continuing through Ostend into Oneroa Village and on to the passenger ferry terminal. This makes it possible to explore the island without a car. Parking is available at the property for guests who choose to bring a vehicle. Taxis and shuttle services operate across the island but can be limited during peak periods. Other Things to Note: The home runs on rainwater tanks, so mindful water use is appreciated.
