AuTrain River Cottages are located in a private association that is quiet and beautiful. There is about a 100 yards of river frontage to enjoy and relax next to. Cottages are pet friendly and range from one bedroom to 4 bedrooms and can accommodate from one to 8 guests. Each Cottage has all amenities included like WiFi, towels, linens, blankets, pillows and cooking supplies. There is a fire-pit area for guests to enjoy a fire w/a view of the river and wood can be purchased locally. Also included is a gas grill w/propane, and one free standard kayak rental from Da Ya Shak. Launching of the canoe is on site and shuttle service is available. Additional kayaks are available for rent. A fishing boat w/motor are available to you on site for a discounted rate. Mooring your own boat is a possibility, contact me for details. DA Spruce is a bigger one bedroom Log Cabin. The original part of the cabin is nearly 100 years old and was added on to in the 50's. The old logs are still in tact and make for a very authentic feel inside. This place is perfect for a couple, or a small family. The kitchen is fully stocked and has a dining table for 4. There is A/C, WiFi, and a 42" TV with cable. There is a queen in the bedroom and two futons in the living room, with plenty of room to move around. Cabin could easily accommodate 4 adults. New in 2017, a large bathroom was installed with a 36" shower stall and adjoining closet area for guests luggage and gear. 2016 was it's first rental season in 25 years, and since people couldn't have been happier. If you want to step back in time but have modern amenities available, this is your place! The AuTrain River provides excellent swimming, and canoeing/kayaking as it winds 12 miles through the Hiawatha National Forest. Further down river puts you into Lake Superior and quite possibly the best beach on all of Lake Superior. Up river is the beautiful AuTrain Lake which provides a wonderful place to enjoy water sports, fishing or just a relaxing cruise. Bass, Walleye or Pike are your most commonly fished. Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore located in Munising is only 15 minutes away and there are over a dozen waterfalls within a 30 mile radius. The National Lakeshore provides days worth of outdoor activities. If you are into fishing, Trout and Salmon are the most commonly fished in Lake Superior. I have seen nearly everything in this area and am a great resource during your stay. Very well maintained. This is the kind of place your grandparents would have vacationed in back in the day, but with modern amenities (streaming TV, wifi, etc.). It really felt like a portal back in time. If that's your target vacation stay, you'll be happy with the digs. The cabin was tastefully decorated and comfortable. It'd be a good fit for a couple and 1-2 kids. Very close to the Au Train river, with the Au Train lake and town a stone's throw away. The property owner was also very responsive with communications without being overbearing with check ins. The sweet spot. Clean, nicely stocked linen, towels, and washclothes. A/C and heater works great. Nice river access. Perfectly located near hiking trails and waterfalls. It was very quiet at night! Loved being in AuTrain. This was a great place to stay that allowed us to take day trips to Grand Marais and Munising, and to explore the surrounding area. ##### Marchell T. It is a 100 year old cabin, but it is very functional and comfortable for 2 people to stay. From where the cabin is located it is very easy to access the Au Train river or go to Munising or Marquette for activities or restaurants. It was pretty cold when we stayed and the propane heater was nice but didn’t feel comfortable sleeping with it on so there were some COLD mornings until it warmed up again. Netflix didn’t work due to the sharing changing nationally that weekend. Small but good for two! ##### Kim A. So we had to check-in an hour later because we had to wait for the cleaning crew. There were holes in the wall that you could see inside the bedroom from the living room and bathroom.The gas range was leaking gas and the whole cabin smelled like gas. I had to reach behind the stove to turn off the gas supply line. I was worried we might get blown up! So we were not able to use the stove which was a bummer since we planned on using it. It gets very cold in the fall/winter, so bring extra layers and blankets. The gas fire place can be a bit tricky to get the right temperature. There are plenty of kitchen utensils to use including pots, pans, and dishware. The cabin is located in a convenient location near the lakeshore, a small store, and plenty of trails.
