About this property

Hyde House Rose Garden Bed & Breakfast Hocking Hills Ohio between Logan & Athens

Historic bed & breakfast with free breakfast and spa tub
This beautiful National Register Victorian house (formerly known as The Mead House) was built in 1882 and became the home of Dr. Jerry Morris Hyde and the Hyde Family descendants for almost 90 years. Originally built by Dr. I. P. Primrose for his daughter Sarah and her new husband, it was sold to Dr. Hyde in 1890. The two doctors were friends, neighbors and also partners in several Nelsonville real estate ventures. When the last Hyde descendent passed away in 1977, the house became a succession of homes, rentals and student housing, until it was rescued and beautifully restored as a Bed & Breakfast by Michael and Sheila Mark in 2006. In 2009 long-time Bed and Breakfast entrepreneur and history lover Sue Maxwell became owner. Sue carried own the B&B tradition until 2016. Sue owns the Primrose Bed & Breakfast across the street. Carrying on Sue's tradition we hope you enjoy being able to “Sleep with History” at the Hyde House in Nelsonville!

The Hyde House estate has a large wrap around front porch with plenty of sitting, lots of space for relaxing. The estate has a lovely dining area, sitting room, parlor room and four well appointed bedrooms & 4 1/2 bathrooms. Each guest will have a comfortable colorful room with private bath. Two bedrooms have a tiger claw soaking tubs. The 120-acre Lake Hope is perfect for fishing, canoeing, kayaking, picnicking and swimming. Our guests will definitely want to visit Nelsonville's Historic Arts District with Stuart's Opera House, Hocking College and the Nelsonville Music Festival.

2/5 Poor

Garden room
Cute house & enjoyed the history of it. Although it was hard and or nearly impossible to get ahold of property manager. When we arrived the place hadn’t been cleaned. Full trash in bathrooms, dishes in the sink of the kitchen, soda can outside on deck properly, and the laundry bin was overflowing.. normally I wouldn’t write the review, but with Covid I would’ve felt more comfortable knowing the place was cleaner.

5/5 Excellent

Fall getaway
it was a lovely weekend. The brightly colored tree lined the roads as the leaves swirled behind the car. We knew that this would be a weekend we would never forget in the small mountain oasis of Nelsonville. The Hyde house played a crucial role in the overall experience of the fall festivities in hocking hills 👌

5/5 Excellent

Our first time in Nelsonville!! Great sights to see!

5/5 Excellent

The home was very beautiful, slept like a baby. Wonderful breakfast and a excellent staff.
We will be back.

3/5 Okay

Loved it but oh those neighbors
The property was beautiful, but we didn’t like the stay because of the white supremacy meetings that went on at the neighbors.
