Great spot, quiet but fun area
The room was fine. It was clean and sunny. The area is GREAT. You can hear noise down the hall. The outside wall is thin, but people were generally quiet. We will definitely be staying there again.

Very convenient stay!
I stopped for one night after a hiking trip so it was like heaven to me to be in that place. Staff members were very nice and 24h desk is very convenient and the location is very central. After my checkout, I could stay in the common area where it was great for working until taking my flight back home

OK hotel
We stayed at the Athinaikon hotel for 4 nights at the end of our trip to Greece and arrived by ferry from Naxos It’s extremely well located in the Psiri district which is close to the main sights, lots of restaurants 5 minutes’ walk away and very close to the Monastiraki Metro station which has direct links to the port of Piraeus plus the airport. It was so convenient that apart from using public transport from the ferry and to the airport we walked everywhere else OK so the hotel has pluses and minuses – it’s run by a very nice family on a number of floors with no lift – be aware if you have a heavy case that has to be carried to the top floor – also depending on the floor you are on you will have a certain amount of stair walking every day Our room, and I think quite a lot of them was spotlessly clean but extremely small – there was just one wardrobe, one small bedside table a chair and a stool, so if you want to spread yourself out it’s very difficult – we virtually lived out of our case for the 4 days – there was a small TV and very good quite air-conditioning that we used every night.The street we faced was quite noisy at night. The hotel does not do breakfast. There was a shower and toilet that was a bit of a squeeze, but OK The rooms were very efficiently cleaned each day with fresh sheets and towels So, an OK hotel in a very good location

Stinky hotel
The staff were super nd helpful but I wouldn’t recommend this place to anyone. It was in a rough street where I felt unsafe and the bathroom smelt like a sewer. It was disgusting

Horrible stay
I sincerely do not recommend this hotel to anyone. For me is what we consider a “bait and switch”. I chose this hotel for the good reviews on the page and the information offered is false. The hotel is very old, not presentable. The bathroom and room are scary and the location is very dangerous. Not even the taxi driver wanted to leave us in front of the hotel. We had to pay an additional € 10 to make it so. To my regret it was already late at night and we had to spend a night there and Hotel.com did not want to move us to another hotel. It is also very nosy!!!

Nice hotel
We were only here for 2 nights, great location, had air con which was amazing. The woman at the front deak was so helpful. Only down fall was no proper shower, it was just a shower hose in the corner of the bathroom which you had to hold, so if you werent careful everything gets wet. Also this hotel doesnt have an elevator, this didnt bother us but it is something to keep in mind.

The clerks were friendly and the location is easy walking to two well-known metro locations (Ommonia Sauare and Monastairaki, which has many restaurants). But the bathroom smelled, and the windows did not close. There was no elevator.

Well kept hotel, close to Monastiraki Square
The room was clean, had two double beds. The hotel was about a comfortable 10 minute walk to the station, just straight down the main road. A bit further down from the station was Monastiraki Square where you'll find some good stores and places to eat. Staff were nice and friendly. Wi-Fi was good. There are no escalators or elevators in the hotel, so if you have a lot of luggage or heavy luggage, just be mindful that you have to carry them up flights of stairs.

Perfect stopover location
If you can dispense with frills and just need a clean bed and bathroom for a short trip or stopover, this is ideal. Great location and staff were courteous and friendly and offered to store our bags free of charge until late in the day we were leaving..

Good budget great location
Great location if you want to be in CENTER of athens-this is a budget small hotel-family run-good price next to the athens food market -monastiraki metro station two minute walk-15 walk minute to acropolis -IMO is same syntagma same -food wise lots of choose -shopping same-room was small but slept a good eight hours no problem.

In the center
This hotel is in the heart of Athens so don’t count on getting a ‘good’ noght’s Rest with all the noises that come from outside. Also the bed is rock solid so it was really hard to sleep on a bed that you can feel the springs. No hot water on the second night we stayed. Tried to have a shower at about 9pm and could not get ANY warm water. Staff were nice and had no issues there. Hotel is close to shops and main attractions, which came in handy.

Two minutes from great night life
We arrived at our hotel at night in the dark, and the neighborhood was a little forboding. The next morning I took a walk and the neighborhood had transformed into a street full of markets, cafes, stores; a bustling, inviting, energetic community just asking for people to visit. At night, just two minutes down the alley across the street was a block full of restaurants and cafes full of happy people eating on the outdoor patios, well lit with a variety of colorful lights. Very nice! The room was small with two queen beds, and a very nice bathroom, just right for us as we were out all the time and just needed a place to sleep.

I use hotels.com all the time because I trust them. This time, though, I am incredibly disappointed and I paid way too much for such a poor place of stay. Living and traveling in Europe, I have gotten used to odd bathroom set-ups, but this is just too much! I have to sit sideways on the toilet, because it’s right up against the wall, it’s just a drain on the floor that doesn’t work, so the water comes into the room, a tiny sink and a “shower head.” If you can call it that. Did the designers of this place really think this was a good idea? I’m so confused... because of this and no ventilation, there is mold growing in the bathroom/shower (because it’s all just one room with nothing dividing the shower). Don’t leave anything in the bathroom that can’t get wet, because the water goes all over the toilet, shelf, sink, etc. and stays there, never draining. It’s very unsanitary and gross. I wish I had brought shower shoes. I’m also disappointed that the window doesn’t actually close or have a lock, which is unsafe. The WiFi also goes out every 10 minutes or so, you can hear everyone around you, it smellls of smoke, and it’s not a clean space. The hotel should be honest and upfront about these things, especially with the bathroom! I’m not even going to be taking another shower, because I felt dirtier afterwards. I hope my hotels on the rest of my stays this week are better!

Cheap and not bad.
The hotel was cheap, so I didn't expect much. There were many many steps just to get to reception, then some more up to my room, which was very small. The staff were friendly and helpful, the room was clean, the bed was ok but I always wonder how often they wash the blankets. The bathroom was ok, I have seen them smaller, so at least it wasn't cramped. I heard no street noise. There are vending machines for drinks and free wifi and maps. It was ok for the price.

An amazing authentic experience;amazing staff
My family and I and our five friends (three rooms in total at the hotel) had a great stay at Athinaikon Hotel. If you want to experience an authentic neoclassical building with many stairs and a nearby busy open market with fruiits, vegetables, meats, and all the different fish your heart desires, as well as dried goods, spices, and many many souvenirs, and restaurants, and pubs, and coffee shops, and did I mention lots and lots of shopping with old fashioned and modern flavor, and not too far from the Acropolis then you want to stay at Athinaikon Hotel. Mrs. Vasiliki, her husband Mr. Yianni, and Petros and Dimitris at the front desk made our stay at the Hotel so much more pleasant. I want to go back so I can see these wonderful and friendly people again. It sure makes your day when the staff smiles and everyone is willing to answer your questions and give suggestions, because if you follow the locals' advice you will have the ultimate experience. I will be going back, that is for sure, but I will request a room on the first floor!!!

Authentic experience
My family and I had a wonderful experience at the hotel and we loved the friendly people Vasiliki, Yiannis, Petros, who answered questions and helped make our stay memorable. Keep in mind that it is an old neoclassical building without an elevator in case you may have difficulty in climbing stairs. My family and I will return because I want to talk to those wonderful people, and also experience the authentic life of Athens by shopping and eating in Athinas Street

Nice hotel overall
Overall it's a pretty good hotel. I had no problems. The room was clean and the hotel was within walking distance to very good restaurants. It's about 6 blocks from the subway so expect a little walk to get to the hotel.

Cheap centralised hotel
Cheap hotel located a short walking distance from the Acropolis and central Athens. There are numerous bars and restaurants in the area. The staff were always pleasant and helpful. Good as a central place just to sleep. The neighborhood can look questionable at night due to graffiti but never felt unsafe. Would use again.

Would not recommend this hotel to anyone!
This hotel was not a good experience for me. I will however mention, the receptionist was very kind and helpful to us. Over all though it was unsanitary, our bathroom had cockroaches and other insects in it and it was covered in mould. There was barely a shower, just a small shower head with nothing around it so the whole bathroom flooded when showering. The beds were uncomfortable and the whole room smelt like mould and moth balls. Also, we were made aware by our taxi driver on the way there that the hotel is in a really dangerous area of Athens. Being two young girls traveling alone this was concerning. For this reason, we had to get taxis to and from the hotel, even though it was in walking distance from shops and restaurants.

It was clean hotel but disappointing Old lady if you asked question the answer is I dont know, even a location he dont know. If you ask for a tour desk answer is I dont know again and saying with a angry face "i have to call the agency". If you asked if you can use the phone in the room using outside call she will answer you with a rude voice "come down" so what is the use of the phone in the room?

Simple, old-fashioned and v friendly
The Athinaikon Hotel is small, simple and old-fashioned. I liked it very much. My single room was very small, but everything worked (shower, toilet, lights, air-con), it was all immaculately clean and the bed was very comfortable. The older lady who was mostly manning reception was absolutely lovey and couldn't have been more friendly or helpful. The situation is excellent, about ten minutes' walk from Monastiraki in the heart of the market district (so expect local colour rather than tourist prettiness). Lots of cafes nearby on Athinas St for breakfast, also a kiosk on the corner which is open all hours; and restaurants close by on Eschilou St and in Iroon Square.

Awful hotel in bad location
Almost everything about this hotel is awful. The location is convenient but as I approached the hotel to check in at 4pm in the afternoon, someone tried to mug me. I asked many locals who I met and they said the area around the hotel is very dodgy and full of petty crime. Even with this, I had already paid for the room, so I stayed at the hotel for the second night. I locked all of my valuables into my backpack with a travel lock during the day while I was out sightseeing. When I came back in the late afternoon and checked it, I could tell someone had been fiddling with the lock. The room itself was very sparse which was fine. The bed was comfortable enough for a couple of nights and the air conditioning works well. They provided me with a set of fresh towels and sheets for each night. The bathroom leaves much to be desired. There is only a drain and shower head right next to the toilet in the bathroom. When I showered, the toilet was soaked and the whole bathroom filled with water. Also they only provide you with a small bar of soap and a small packet of shampoo. The staff were courteous, but I felt that they had lied to me when I asked about the safety of the surrounding area. If you’re really a seasoned budget traveler and you think you can put up with all of this for the cheap hotel price, I would suggest you only stay here if you are with someone else. Great Central Location in Athens.
The Athinaikon Hotel was perfect for us. A family of 4 with two daughters aged 13 & 15. It's a 10 minute walk from the Monastiraki Station north along Athinas road. Turn left along Evripidou (street) and the hotel doorway is 50m (ish) on the right. The abundance of graffiti along the street does make you think twice at first as it gives a sense of sleaze to the road, unfortunately. (Athens does have a problem with graffiti that they don't appear to be trying to tackle, even on the walk up to the Acropolis walls are covered but that's another issue). The older lady running the hotel speaks good english and is friendly. The room we had was 2 double beds with air con and a bathroom with toilet, basin and a shower. No view to speak of as it faced the back of other buildings but that did mean no road noise which is good. The hotel felt safe and secure and the room was cleaned daily. I handed my passports in to be held in the hotel safe during our stay.
