Everywhere was clean, no problems there. It was a minimalist room with everything you needed for a comfortable stay. There was an area as part of the hotel to get food and drink at the appropriate times which was simple. Unfortunately due for time we were unable to partake on the breakfast (which was available for a reasonable price added, especially being in Amsterdam which can be quite pricey) but it sounded lovely. Homemade pancakes were an option that nearly tempted me to miss a flight. The hosts were attentive, friendly and very knowledgeable of the area. As well as just being generally a delight to chat to. For a private room/bathroom, options of breakfast, wonderfully friendly owners, basically in the centre of Amsterdam.. it couldn't have been any better. Would definitely come again.

Excellent stay. Lovely location. All clean and tidy. However beds really soft which struggled to sleep as double bed was also two singles pushed together.

thank you kindly for your review we dont have that many double beds we have more single use and we make the room as double if needed this is our bed system as for the mattresses every person has a different wish we try our best to be as accomodating keeping in mind we are only a small family hotel thank you for your time it was lovely to meet you.

Best feature is the location
The hosts were friendly. We expected a double bed, but received two twin beds pushed together. The exterior bathroom was down the hallway (not close). The small room did not face either the canal or a garden, but an air shaft. The location is good, with easy tram access.

Ove good stay for what we needed
Travelling on a budget and stayed here as it was one of the cheapest hotels we could find in amsterdam that suited out needs. It's in the perfect location (everything is a short walk away), owner was really friendly and welcoming and made our stay enjoyable. Room was comfy and provided everything you need. Shared showers and toilets were always very clean and look new! Was really no problem sharing as was like they were our own anyway. All in all wouldn't fault and would recommend to other budget travellers

The hotel was clean and in a wonderfully central location. And the lovely owners provide a luggage storage option which is great if you have a late flight back. I was very impressed with this hotel. It is within walking distance of many great attractions and coffee shops

One night lay-over
My experience at the Kooyk hotel was fitting with the cost. The room was comfortable and clean enough. The shared washroom down the hall was convenient. The very tiny toilet booth was uncomfortable. Be prepared for steep stairs and small steps. The hotel was well located near tram lines and many restaurants.

with regret this is a historial building the bathroom in a canal house is small cannot be changed the stairs also. it would be a tip if you did some research into canal buildings they all have steep stairs.. we offerd you a very good deal for this loaction, thank you for your feed back.

My wife and I stayed at the Kooyk Hotel when in Amsterdam to attend a gig at the Paradiso. The location was taken into account when choosing the hotel. We got the airport shuttle bus from Schiphol which drops off at the Leidesplein stop a five minute walk from hotel. The Paradiso was a ten minute walk and all the bars and restaurants of Leidesplein just around the corner. The hotel itself was very clean and warm, and the staff friendly and helpful. I felt the 3pm check in was a bit late as we had a morning arrival, but we were able to drop or bags off at 11am. In all had a great stay and wouldn't hesitate to use again when staying in that area. Convenient and Clean.

Likes: good location close to museums and walking distance to transportation, shops. Room looks like pictures displayed. Spacious. Quiet with canal view. Shared toilets and shower rooms which were clean. Dislikes: they do not have air conditioning. In fact when we asked about it. The staff member said this is a one-star hotel. We then asked for a fan as it was a 35C day. They said they don’t have any more but they were using it for themselves. They don’t have a 24hr desk so they could have offered it overnight and return it the next day but refused to.

7am Construction equipment wake up call
Terrible. TV didn't work, no TV remote, bathrooms were disgusting (urine on the toilet and walls). We were woken at 7am by a construction crew doing work on the exterior of the building. They were literally drilling into our wall with loud power tools (hearing damage noise levels) at 7 in the morning. When i complained to the hotel management in a polite way, i was given a very rude response. Which upset me even more.

Excellent location, Nothing fancy, super small double room, you must pay to watch TV, if you have obesity problems and can not climb stairs never stay there! the stairs have a very large inclination that are very difficult to climb and high and the spaces very small. No private bathroom must share toilet and shower on guests of 5 more rooms. I would definitely not stay there again I recommend it.

thank you for your reivew, you do not have to pay for the tv you only pay a refundable deposit for the remote control as expalined on check in. this room is small, but your price paid is also v low buget we have larger rooms and they are more expensive, this hotel is a canal house in the centre of the city with a lot of stairs, a quick email to our guest conversation would help if you needed a lower floor, but you choose a very cheap price for this location. the booking clearly stated shared bathroom on the paper, again if you wished to have a room with private bathroom an email would have helped thank you for your kind remarks, kind regards

Wonderful place if you can drop your standards
Place was okay. We stayed during the hottest day of the year, and not having any Air Conditioning was slightly unpleasant. Also a bathroom and shower putside the room werent ideal. But given the price, it was all managable. Good nights sleep, they hold the luggage, and did check-ins at every hour of the night. Overall the room was nice, and faced a quieter part of the city. The single glazed window could be improved to double or tripple glazing to keep the noise of cyclists, pedestrians and cars out.

The hotel was super clean, toilets despite being shared always smelled good and were cleaned regularly. Hotel owner was really friendly and held some online orders for me and my friends. Overall an excellent experience.

Close to the most important attractions. The entire "hotel" floor was heavily carpeted and dirty, dangerous for those who suffer from allergies. Our room was also carpeted which was filthy along with the walls. There is no air conditioning and the blinds were broken. The window was direct to the street and without any protection. They were aware we were traveling with an infant. Window without a handrail is very DANGEROUS! I spoke to the receptionist regarding these issues who apologized and provided a poor excuse telling me that they were renovating (no area in remodeling was observed). If that were the case, why would you place clients in currently renovating spaces? It appears that this location has little regard for moral ethics. This place is not worth saving some chump changer over. FOR YOUR SAFE, PLEASE STAY AWAY.

with regret your review is not correct, we proved you with a good decent room and it not not filthy as you say i refer you to a score of 7.6 on other websites, if you had any issues at all you should have come to check with us, after i cannot help. my staff are all very hepful people. i feel with great sadness you should have checked and been refunded, but as you did not have the decency to contact me and i am here every day i could not help with great regret MF Moonen owner ps you price was from 40 euro pp per day.

A so-so hostel
It's a cheap place to stay near all the attractions. The room was comfy but we had to share the bathroom with others. It is also very noisy depending on the guests. Reception is not available unti 11 AM. Our flight arrived before then and they wouldn't leave our bags. I wouldn't recommend it more than a few days.

Great hotel and in a really good location with a decent price. However, we booked a double bed and received two single beds on wheels pushed together that kept slipping apart. Spending every night waking up falling on the floor down to the middle.

The location was one of the only good things about this hotel. We were supposed to get a bigger room but got a room the size of our bed. The stairs were nearly impossible to walk up with luggage. The shared toilet rooms were ridiculously small. I usually stay in budget hotels, this one wasn’t the greatest. If you plan on staying a few nights and only use it to sleep, it’s fine.

Good Location bed was two singles pushed together
Overall i was pretty happy it was clean and well located. The bed themselves were comfy however having two single beds pushed together is not a substitute for a double bed.

Great location. Shared bathrooms were clean. Everything is on the older side, walls are thin and its easy to hear others. Typical steep Amsterdam stairs and tight halls, but room was comfortable size and could be comfortable for two people. Paid an off season, weekday price so it was definitely worth the money.
