Very special property
Room was good and balcony had great view of the sea. The public areas beautifully decorated with moorish furniture. The building itself was incredible - lots to explore and feel like you are in the past. Never seen anything like it. Great place for group celebrations.

Best and nicest hotel in Amalfi
So happy that I booked this hotel. Service was impeccable and the staff couldn't have been nicer. They accommodated and helped us with everything from the moment we stepped into the parking lot someone was there to take our bags to our room. The complimentary shuttle service to Amalfi was great addition as we had dinner there in town many nights. I would unequivocally recommend this hotel and hope to stay here again in the future! Also the hotel has its own private beach and pool. Views are amazing on every inch of this property.

Great Hotel with amazing views of Amalfi.
This hotel is amazing, and the staff could not be more attentive. Private beach, shuttle to town, and a pretty good complimentary breakfast. Food at the hotels restaurants is very expensive and you are almost always better off going to town for other meals.

Rooms and hotel were extremely outdated. Booking described shower head. There was just a tub. Mirrors throughout the hotel were so old they were pitted. Overpriced! Front desk pleasant and helpful. Breakfast so so. View lovely. Shuttle bus seats 8. You may not get a seat.

Lovely Hotel, all the staff are wonderful
Our room had wonderful views out to sea and of the coast line, the room was spotless with everything we needed. There is private beach with bar and restaurant, also bar and restaurant in the main hotel serving good food. The staff where friendly and helpful at all times. We had a lovely holiday and would stay here again. The regular shuttle into Amalfi and pick up was great and the driver was so helpful and when the last shuttle was full the driver came back to just to pick us up.

Breathtakingly beautiful
Perched on a cliff overlooking the Mediterranean this hotel summarizes the Amalfi Coast. Massive rock outcroppings and immense cliffs. Incredible vistas and blue seas. Numerous terraces at varying levels - feels like you could spend the day just wandering through the property.

Superb Hotel
Antonio Macchio and his staff operate a 5-star hotel on the Amalfi Coast. Everything is first-rate! A wonderful location and attention to detail is constant. You are treated like a guest deserves to be treated. It is a unique and beautiful place. There IS an elevator from the lobby to the beach!!

Beautiful hotel with a nice pool and its own beach
Nice beautiful peaceful hotel it's a little away from the center of Amalfi but it's still a great hotel. The free breakfast was great and the restaurants on site provide great lunch and dinner.

Great private beach & views
The great thing about this hotel is that it has a very nice private beach with free chairs for guests. The rooms are ok, but seem a little outdated. Still comfortable though. The hotel restaurant was terrible... Which was a shame bc they have an amazing terrace. The breakfast Was ok, but not great. they do offer a free shuffle into town, which is very helpful. I'm not at all saying avoid this hotel. It just depends on your priorities. For us, an easially accessible nice beach was our biggest and we were not disappointed. I think there are areas that could be improved though.

Such a disappointment
The hotel is easy to find, parking is a little awkward. The views are utterly breathtaking. The hotel holds such a glorious position and it was a terrible shame that this is the only thing positive I can share about this experience. The check in experience was unwelcoming. When we were shown to our room we noted that the lobby areas, whilst clean and ornate, were very lack lustre and obviously not used at all. On arriving at our room the 1st point to note is the smell. Musty, like a dark cave. It suggests the rooms are little used. This was noticed by the staff member as she rushed to fling open the windows. The rooms themselves are very clean and neat. They are also extremely dated. Quaint, charming, authentic; all words my friend and I were using, what we really meant was 'old and tired'. The bathroom whilst again clean and quite large was hugely old fashioned and not as you'd expect; the shower which was over the bath, leaked out into the room. The hairdryer on the wall would not ever have dried your hair. There are no facilitties in the room to spruce up your travelling clothes. Iron, ironing board. Insufficient hangers in the musty wardrobe. Not available from reception either. Although they will send your clothes off to be ironed (24 hour turnaround) for a silly sum of money. Dead. Dying. Needs an injection of cash immediately and new staff. Absolutely not 5 star by current standards. Upshot - refund demanded and found a glorious 5 star hotel for less.

Stunning views of the Amalfi Coast
I stayed at Il Saraceno with my son for a week. It was an amazing hotel with loads of interesting furniture and artworks as well as stunning views. It was very clean and the pool was great - we practically had it to ourselves. There was a shuttle bus into Amalfi, but you had to get there early to get on as it was high season and only took 8 passengers. Giovanni was very accomodating however and would always return for people. My only criticism would be the food at the hotel - it wasn't all that nice and was overpriced, plus a lot of the menu was not suitable for peanut allergy so my son couldn't eat much. However, we ate out and Bar Bruglio next door had amazing food and the view was just as good.

Wow, beach, service, rooms all 5 star
Wow. This hotel is absolutely beautiful. The views are amazing from all of the balconies and dining areas. The breakfast is delicious. We enjoyed walking the stairs to the beach access but there is an elevator to take as well. The "castle" can be a bit confusing but it's so much fun to explore. Our room had a wonderful terrace which lead to the stairs we could take to the beach or pool. The decor of the hotel was perfectly fit for a palace. The dinner we had on the open terrace was certainly one to remember. The only meal I wouldn't suggest would be lunch, otherwise this hotel delivered 5 star service. They conveniently offer a shuttle to and from the Amalfi town center which we really appreciated.

Honeymoon Bliss
Honeymoon stay, the staff were fantastic and catered for our every need. The beach was superb too. My only downside was that the food in the restaurant did not match the rest of the hotel, my wife and I sadly found it a little bland compared to the other foods we had throughout our stay in Italy.

very nice hotel with excellent views
We came from Rome and arrived at midnight with many bags. They were very accomadating. The hotel has I think one of the best views around. Very quite area and a 20 minute drive to Positano which is very lively and fun. The beach is rocky but still worth going to and the town of Amalfi isn't far. We went to Capri on a private boat and hardly spent any time at our hotel. The decor is very outdated and the sheets are not like the Ritz but we still enjoyed our stay!

Wonderful, unique Amalfi hotel on a private beach
Great experience for a family with 2 young boys. Boutique, hotel with unique architecture (built in the side of the mountain, simulates a medieval castle), with excellent facilities (large 1 bedroom with private terrace), truly private, nice beach, suspended pool on the side of the mountain, etc. The views from the rooms, pool, restaurant and beach are indeed amazing.

An oasis away from Amalfi town centre
A destination in itself, with its private beach and friendly staff. Salt water pool was great too. Not difficult to find good food at or near the hotel either by foot, boat (there a 3 local restaurants right of the beach) or by shuttle into Amalfi.

Nice Hotel On the Beach
Absolutely wonderful experience. Rooms were large and most have private balconies. Private beach alone makes this a no-brainer. Staff was gracious and helpful for all needs including coordinating transportation and reservations. Grounds are stunning. I would 110% recommend this to anyone going to the Amalfi Coast.

The hotel was great! My only complaint would be that I wish the hotel shuttle schedule would have been sent to us once the booking was made because we paid 25 euros for a taxi there and once we got there and was given the shuttle schedule, we realized that a shuttle was on its way back to the hotel within 5 minutes of us arriving. Otherwise, the hotel itself and location were great!

Gorgeous views.
This hotel could be amazing! The views are out of this world, but the hotel needs to improve in many ways. I wouldn't classify the hotel as a 5 star as rated. The room we had was clean upon entry with wonderful sheets and a comfortable bed, but the noise from the rooms above, the shared balcony, the expensive water in the mini fridge and the stained fabric headboard, frayed fabric on the chair and stains on the dresser didn't add up to a 5 star experience. The staff upon check in were very friendly and helpful. The fellows that carried our bags to our room were very nice. The parking was not an issue at all. We ordered room service the first night and the food was quite good. There was no corkscrew in the room and we had to take our wine to the restaurant to have it opened. The only bottled water available was in the minibar and it was very expensive. There is no bar service at the pool. My husband got us a couple of delicious lemon mojitos, but they came at a high price - 16 Euros each! We thought that we would eat lunch at the beach bar, but it wasn't open. When we asked the bartender where we could eat lunch, he just gestured for us to go upstairs. Once upstairs, we were told that lunch wasn't being served, but we could head up the road to a restaurant that was open. So, there are some good things about the hotel, but there are also some big issues that need to be addressed

I can't wait to go back. The staff is friendly and accommodating. Love having the small beach and pool. Highly recommend. They do have free parking if your brining a car. Very clean. Simply beautiful. We were there just before the summer season begins. Perfect time to go as weather is nice and not so crowded.

Beautiful Amalfi
Perfect hotel for a short break, my room a deluxe seaview was a little dated but comfortable, but the views made up for this in everyway. The hotel operates a very useful and efficient shuttle bus into Amalfi. The staff are so helpful and friendly. The breakfast is simply delicious, and the restaurant for dinner was very good. I will stay there again. One thing the check out is at midday not 7 am as incorrectly posted on Hotel.com

Great view but in need of renovation
This hotel is advertised as a 5 star facility but in my opinion is more like a lower 4 star hotel. The hotel was built 45 years ago and is dire need of renovation. The beds, towels, soaps, shampoo, furniture and everything else in the hotel are really cheap and of lower quality. The view from the hotel is fantastic but its location is not convenient. The hotel is approximately 2 miles from Amalfi and you will need to use the hotel shuttle for transportation to Amalfi and your return to the hotel (taxis are really expensive). The shuttle service is limited and you will need to plan your day ahead. On the positive side, the hotel staff was really nice and helpful.

Comfortable hotel, amazing views, lovely beach
Pros: the views, the beach, most of the staff, very clean, striking hotel, shuttle bus and driver, lovely taverna at bottom of beach Cons: drinks and food in hotel too expensive (this is amalfi in general too), taxis are also a rip off from Amalfi so you feel cut off if no shuttle available, esp. after 8pm. We would have eaten/stayed at hotel more if price of food and drink were more reasonable 3/4 weddings in 12 days, but didn't really affect our stay Would only stay again or recommend if we had our own transport, for shorter stay or Beach break, overall enjoyed ourselves though!

Not a 5 star hotel
The only thing 5 star about this hotel are its prices the rooms are spacious but dated and need a coat of paint and furniture updated.the beach is all stones so you need your shoes but the view is beautiful and we found the beach staff helpful. There is no customer care at this hotel no pampering the customer which you would expect at a 5 star hotel and the staff struggle to raise a smile apart from giovanni the shuttle bus driver who welcomes you and greets you everytime he sees you with a big smile. The worst issue was at breakfast time again no smiles and you can wait up to 20 minutes for your tea and coffee and then that turns up luke warm and the bacon and eggs were cold on most mornings because know one could be bothered to fill the underneath with hot water.we ended up sticking to jam on toast. What a shame because the hotel is in a good spot 10 min shuttle drive to amalfi although you will be ripped off by the cab drivers for 25 euros for a 4 km journey and be prepared to share your cab but both parties be charged the full price for the journey. A special mention to the maid service who were fantastic changing our towels twice a day and turning our beds down at night a nice touch. Make sure you visit bar Baglio a 2 min walk from the hotel where prices are a lot cheaper and the service is excellent the family owned bar cannot do enough for you. Il saraceno could learn a lot from bar Baglio.

Step into history on the stunning Amalfi Coast
Enchanting location and amazing views! Never been to a hotel like this before it's an ancient cliff side castle with luxury hotel service. Staff is very attentive. Romantic dinner on a terrace with breathtaking views. Stone stairs cover the entire property. It's cliffside, so not for people who don't like to walk up stairs. There are several elevators.

Stop there just for pictures
What a disappointment! The most uncomfortable luxury hotel I have ever stayed in. Building itself costs a fortune: carved on the rock, beautiful gardens, and nothing to do. The pool is deep and the beach shouldn't be so called. Just a pile of rocks. The place isolated in a dangerous curvy road, where you cannot walk or run without putting your life at risk. Parking lot is tiny, but if you do not arrive with your own car, you are confined in a place that doesn't even offer room service before 7:00 am. Breakfast is good and they provide an hourly shuttle to Amalfi town until 8:00 pm. If you stay in town after that time, a taxi back will cost 25 Euro. No wifi in the rooms, just in the terrace and lobby, and the more people gather there, the slower it runs. TV channels: 7 Italian, BBC, TVE, one French, and one German. Floor was dusty and low quality mattress, despite having new bed linens. The bathroom is their best feature. This hotel is frozen in time, due to be refurbished. Runs as a 1950's retreat where the highlight is a guitar duo playing at dinner time. Food is average. Your can get better in town. Elevators seem to be there forever. Door knobs: antiques, and the safe runs with a key! Will not recommend this hotel: expensive and uncomfortable. Reminded me of an Agatha Christie movie: "Evil under the Sun".

Great views from the hotel over the sea
The hotel is in a beautiful location, but it won't suit everyone. The hotel is on the cliff face with lots of steps and two separate lifts are needed to go from top to bottom; not good if you're infirm, elderly, claustrophobic, or have very young kids. As thankfully we don't into any of these categories we had a nice time. My wife did find the lift to the beach a challenge as it is cut deep into the rock face! Our best meal was at the Trattoria Da Ciccio Cielo which is about a quarter of a mile from the hotel towards Amalfi and worth a visit, but it's best to book.

Beautiful grounds and wonderful front desk, but...
We spent the first part of our honeymoon at the Il Saraceno, and were disappointed. The front desk staff was amazing, and assisted us with whatever we needed. Also, the shuttle driver was very friendly and helpful. However some of the other staff were not so friendly. The bar was supposed to be open but whenever we went there just for coffee or even water(very expensive to buy in the hotel and you cannot store bottles in the fridge) they were less than receptive to assist us. The air conditioning did not work, and that was a huge problem. The minute we arrived our room was around 82 degrees. We, along with several othe guests complained, and were told it was supposed to be fixed and there were no other rooms to move to. For hotel situated on the beautiful coast, and with receiving the morning and afternoon sun(without shade) taking a nap in the room was not an option. Also th cleaning staff, who were very thorough, did not adhere to the "Do Not Disturb" sign on the door... Which was unsettling. So despite the wonderful desk, and the location we would not stay here again. There are other more modern hotels closer to town than the Il Saraceno, that have working air conditioning.
