We loved the location. A few minutes from the highway, couple of miles from Jim Thorpe and close to restaurants and shopping. The house is in the woods. We saw deer and turkey from the front and back of the house. It was quiet too. The house is warm and cozy. We cooked dinners and we had all we needed to do our cooking. The location of the Bear House is great, right in the middle of activities and dining spots. The house is cute, a mix of updates and retro bear cabin theme. Comfortable beds and furniture in the living room. Nice big screen TV and games to hang out at night. We came for a quick rafting trip and this was just right for the price. We didn't really use the hot tub or beach because it rained but having those amenities is a big reason why we picked the property. This was a perfect getaway that offered a quiet neighborhood that felt private, but also gave access to the community facilities and good hikes within a short drive. As soon as we arrived I knew we had the right place, watching my girls' faces light up as the lay on the top bunk and watched 2 fawns nursing from their mom in the tree line less than 50ft from the window. The simple things like having a foozball table kept us off devices and doing things as a family while we were relaxing in the house, yet on that one rainy afternoon, being able to log into our streaming services to watch a movie together on the large screen was a bonus. The community itself has a big lake, and a nice swimming pool. Property is clean and spacious enough for eight of us (two families) and a dog. The foosball table and the arcade machine offers kids with some extra activities during their down time. And the outdoor jacuzzi is big and very relaxing. The only thing that's a bit lacking is a dryer machine -- we had to hang dry the clothes after washing as the washer/dryer combo took forever to dry clothes. Hosts provided detailed, timely instruction throughout the booking process and during our stay. They offered plenty of household essentials (trash bags, dishwasher pods, utensils, cooking essentials) to make our stay more convenient. Definitely recommend! ##### Yunfan D. Having a washing machine for our suits and towels was so great! Bring some detergent. We were a bit surprised that the soap dispensers were only filled with water, but the local market had all the supplies we needed. The house could use a refresh, maybe a paint job, and the mildew smell is a bit overwhelming. but that's the mountains for you. The listing stated there was an outdoor propane firepit but it didn't appear to be available for our stay. We saw there was a regular firepit but the rules stated no open flames allowed, so that was confusing. We ended up just forgoing any fires for our s'mores. The indoor propane fireplace does not work, even though we put new batteries in the remote, another disappointment. There was a bunch of trash in the yard, so we only hung outside to use the hot tub. The hot tub is the best amenity of this property, the tent over it was the best part. Tons of deer to wake up to, lovely trees for lots of cool shade. Getting rid of the garbage was a pretty easy process, just don't forget to bring your community hang tag or they'll turn you away, sternly. The community pool and lake were amazing, just definitely not close to the house. (Paddleboat rental is $20 per hour, don't forget your ID.) I enjoyed being able to vacuum and sweep, and not have to just live with dirty floors like you would in a hotel.Close to Jim Thorpe & Lake Harmony. Eric was extremely accommodating and his communication was flawless.The home is very clean, neat and orderly and in a very quiet community.
