It is a newly refurbished Hotel, and although simple in style, it is a very unique place, located on a wonderful site which overlooks the ocean, and has a spectacular view from the restaurant while dining. Everyone was so nice, and the staff could not do enough for us, but I have to mention our lovely waiter Isha who was such a pleasant young man, and made us feel extra welcome. His smile would brighten your day, and anything requests we had were never a problem with him. We stayed at Gartons Cape for 2 nights. The room, pool and beach at the hotel were very nice, however the buffet food was very limited and a lot of it was cold. Compared to the other buffets we had on our trip in Sri Lanka it was also overpriced. On the second night we ordered a la carte thinking it would be better quality but unfortunately this resulted in my having extremely bad diarrohea the following day and almost missing our flight as I was so ill. We were upgraded to an ocean view room upon arrival, which was very nice and really made a big difference. The other side of the hotel is directly on the road and I can only imagine how loud it would have been. The beds are very comfortable, the buffet breakfast was perfect and the pool and grounds are set up very nicely. The small private beach is also a bonus, and there was enough space for everyone. A few things to consider: the wifi wasn't working properly and it was only on day 2, when a manager (rather than a receptionist who I had complained to on several occasions) overheard and solved the problem. Also, the location is fantastic in that it is right on the ocean, but the hotel is also on the main road and so there is always a lot of noise. Nothing to be done about that though. The restaurant food was just okay, but overpriced.
