About this property
Burn Cottage - A Secluded Highland Retreat For Two
The Cottage
Burn Cottage is a private Highland sanctuary designed for two. Set beside a gently running burn, this beautifully refurbished detached stone cottage offers luxury, solitude, and deep calm - a place where the world slows and nature takes centre stage.
Wrapped in unspoilt landscape yet finished with thoughtful, high-quality details, Burn Cottage is entirely private and exclusively yours. Large windows frame the surrounding hills, inviting slow mornings, lingering afternoons, and cosy evenings by firelight.
The Living Area
The bright and airy open-plan living, kitchen and dining area has been designed for comfort and ease. The fully equipped kitchen includes a dishwasher and a combined washer/dryer, making longer stays effortless.
The living area is warm and inviting - the perfect retreat for unwinding with a book while enjoying the ever-changing landscape. A wood-burning stove provides both warmth and atmosphere, ideal after a day exploring the Highlands.
The Bedroom
The bedroom features an indulgent super-king-size Harrison Spinks zip-and-link bed. For added comfort, one side is medium and the other firm, allowing guests to choose what suits them best. The bed is dressed with a luxurious Hungarian goose-down duvet and a selection of pillows for a truly restful night's sleep.
As night falls, the velux windows offer a front-row view of the famously dark Highland skies, where constellations glow brightly above the cottage.
The Bathroom
The Porcelanosa bathroom features a spacious walk-in rain shower and electric underfloor heating. Luxury Aesop toiletries are provided, adding a spa-like touch to your stay.
Heating & Comfort
The cottage is fully heated with oil-fired central heating. Heating, electricity, and logs for the wood-burning stove are all included in your rental, ensuring year-round comfort.
The Garden
Three sets of patio doors open onto the private garden, allowing you to fully embrace the cottage's peaceful setting. Nature surrounds you here - a variety of wildlife, including birds, deer, red squirrels, and even pine martens, have been spotted in and around the garden.
There are several outdoor seating areas, each offering a different aspect of the landscape. As the day turns to night, soft outdoor lighting creates a calm and welcoming atmosphere, perfect for lingering outside under the Highland sky.
The Setting
There are no crowds here - just birdsong, open space, and time to breathe. Whether you spend your days exploring Glen Lyon or simply staying still, Burn Cottage offers a rare and restorative escape: simple, beautiful, and deeply calm.
Ideal for couples seeking privacy, comfort, and a true Highland retreat.
The Local Area
Burn Cottage is perfectly placed for exploring the outstanding scenery and attractions of Highland Perthshire. The picturesque Arts and Crafts village of Fortingall is just over a mile away and is home to the famous ancient yew tree, believed to be one of the oldest living trees in Europe. The recently refurbished Fortingall Hotel serves food and drinks and hosts a popular Friday night folk music session, recently featured on Local Lens: Scotland, presented by Ewan McGregor.
A short drive away, Kenmore sits at the beautiful eastern end of Loch Tay, offering a spa, water-based activities, and scenic lochside walks. Nearby Aberfeldy provides an excellent choice of restaurants and cafés, independent shops, and a small supermarket for everyday essentials. Visitors may also enjoy Castle Menzies, a well-preserved 16th-century castle, and the Crannog Centre in Kenmore, which offers a fascinating insight into Iron Age life.
For walkers and nature lovers, the surrounding area is rich in opportunities. Glen Lyon, often described as one of Scotland’s most beautiful glens, is ideal for peaceful riverside walks and longer hikes. The Birks of Aberfeldy is a popular circular woodland walk featuring waterfalls and lovely views over the Tay Valley, suitable for most abilities. More experienced walkers may wish to tackle Schiehallion, a classic Munro with a well-defined path and spectacular panoramic views. There are also numerous gentle walks along the shores of Loch Tay, perfect for enjoying the scenery at a relaxed pace.
Other nearby highlights include the dramatic Falls of Dochart at Killin and a visit to Dewar’s Aberfeldy Distillery, where whisky tours and tastings are available.
