"Best vacation EVER! "
Technically this wasn't a vacation, it was our honeymoon. I found this place on some Google list of top 10 most romantic honeymoon spots and it did not dissapoint. The grounds are beautiful. The staffs mission in life is to make sure you are happy and have everything you need. And it's not just for tips either, it's genuine. Whether you want to do nothing or everything, you will be pleased. We just got back and are already planning a return trip. The rooms are VERY private, no noise from other villas etc. The food at every restaurant on the property is amazing and each one is a different dinning experience. Highly recommended spot.

"Amazing hotel for a 1/3 of the price"
Stayed here along with the Banyan Tree and Rosewood. For the price compared to the other two, Fairmont is just as good. Definitely check it out.

"Incredible family vacation destination!!"
I'm not one for writing reviews but I could not go without gushing about our stay at this property. We recently visited for 5 nights with my family of 4, my sister's family of 3 and my father, who was celebrating his 80th birthday during our stay. We had 3 different rooms, all in the Beach Area, which ranged from a lagoon casita, a casita suite with a roof deck/pool and finally, an ocean front suite. All were fantastic in their own way, each with its own unique vantage point of the gorgeous, lush property. We felt like movie stars when we lounged on the deck of the Ocean front suite which had its own large plunge pool overlooking the beach and ocean. The beach food/bar staff would also service us there - so convenient! Every single staff member who we came into contact to, from the front desk, servers, housekeeping, upper management, to the golf cart drivers, everyone made us feel special, pampered and right at home. A huge shout out to our butler, Alberto, who made our family vacation/celebration perfection. He was charming and full of fun and helped us with dinner, spa & golf reservations (nothing was too much trouble or too last minute), he anticipated our every need and he even had my father’s room decorated with balloons, streamers and a personalized cake on the day of his birthday. Wow! Last but not least we definitely recommend the Appetite for Luxury all-inclusive option- a fantastic deal for our group who loves to eat and drink. Go go go to Mayakoba!!

"Cried when saying goodbye to staff"
Have no idea why. But for some unknown reason, leaving the staff at Viceroy felt worse than when I left my boys at college for the first time. It really is impossible to overstate how kind, compassionate and considerate the staff is at this facility. If the rooms sucked. If the food was horrible. If the beach was eroded. I would still go back to this hotel just to be taken care of by their exceptional people. Fortunately, the rooms are magnificent (we stayed in the lowest grade and it could not have been better). The food is outstanding (though honestly the price is painful). The beach is well maintained, as are the grounds throughout. Used the gym every day. As long as you are just looking for your daily cardio and a bit of free weight work its adequate. Have I mentioned the staff? A shout out to young Victor, Marcos and Mr. Pepe, and frankly I've lost some names that really deserve to be singled out for being exceptional. Man, I loved this place and would heartily recommend it to anyone who needs a bit of pampering in the most private, personalized manner possible.

"Luxury a galore with a few black spots."
This is my 4th time at Las Velas and once again they delivered almost to perfection, a few spots during our stay. The hotel was entering the low season and the occupancy was very low, but somehow during the first 5 nights we stayed at an Ocean View suite. Not much of an ocean view and more a pool view, did not complaint about it, but the room description was deceiving. The last two days paid for an Ocean Front, Private pool suite, and we got a room with a partial ocean view, since we were also looking at the roof of one of the restaurants. In addition, and to my surprise, the two qeen beds were significantly smaller than the other room with no view. At some point I even thought about asking the hotel staff to move me to the first room as it was more comfortable and since we were at the beach or pool most of the day, the view at the end was not as important. In summary, on a hotel were all the interactions are scripted to deliver a superior service, I feel than on an almost empty Hotel, if the staff was really looking to deliver a wow factor, they should have given a bit more thought on the room assignment, after all we were repeating customer paying the modest amount of $1200 a night.

Pocket Guide: Riviera Maya Playa del Carmen 5 stars Hotels

Still small enough to explore on foot, Playa del Carmen has a relaxed, yet cosmopolitan feel, with a variety of hotels, shops, and restaurants ranging from causal to upscale. European-style sunbathing is common on beaches. Playa is a popular jumping-off point for day trips to Xcaret, Xel-Ha, Tulum, and other peninsula attractions, and a passenger ferry makes frequent runs to Cozumel.
