"Mayakoba is Paradise!"
The villas at Banyan Tree were exceptional, we stayed in a Serenity Pool Villa and it was worth the extra few bucks. The service was good, excellent compared to anywhere else, but good compared to the Rosewood Mayakoba. We have stayed at the Rosewood and Banyan Tree in Mayakoba. Both are amazing, the service a bit better at the Rosewood and the villas a bit better at the Banyan Tree. Regardless, both places are amazing! I would recommend that both resorts be on everyone's travel "bucket list".

"Luxury privacy and nature. "
Second time to Rosewood Mayakoba and we loved it every bit as much as the first. The property is gorgeous - the lagoon suites are private, expansive and offer many places to lounge, surrounded by natural views and wildlife. Service is excellent - everyone truly wants to make your experience a pleasure. The beach, the pools, & the spa are so pampering you won't want to leave the resort. Perfect for a restorative 4 day retreat.

"Exquisite hotel with white sand beach"
The Farimont hotel is hidden in a tropical paradise. You will enjoy staying in small 1 to 2 room bungalows or you may upgrade to a private beach front bungalow with infinity pool looking over one of the most beautiful white sand beaches and crystal clear ocean. The restaurants are 6 star and pricy but worth every penny.

"THE best, so happy!"
I have been to several all-inclusives, but this was hands down phenomenal. We were married there last week and every guest was amazed at the quality of the resort we chose. The staff was EXTREMELY polite and accomodating in EVERY aspect. They all remembered my name after one conversation and were super pleasant; it was something that we've never experienced. The food was TREMENDOUS, every restaurant, meal, snack; no matter what we had it was terrific. Even ordering pool bar food was delicious. We were all so sad to leave and our friends were all asking to have our anniversary there so we can go back. We will definitely go back for sure as it WAS WORTH EVERY PENNY!

"Gorgeous Hotel, Amazing Food, Service Spotty"
I was hesitant to do another all-inclusive as the food tends to be average, but this is definitely a resort for the foodie. The food at the restaurants was outstanding. Service at the Pilaf (french) and SunLin (Asian) was top notch. Service at Frida (mexican) and the Bistro (american) was very spotty. In particular, if you are looking to have breakfast or lunch at the Bistro plan for a long stay as they seemed to be a bit short staffed. We did go to one of the buffet restaurants and it was fine for a quick meal for breakfast. Beach is gorgeous, plenty of cabanas and the staff was very attentive to taking orders for food and drink. We stayed in the adult side and the rooms were huge. Had a walk out patio and plunge pool. Great views. Each room has their own butler and ours, Yocelyn, was wonderful. Spa was great although I do have a small gripe. We received a voucher from Expedia but were told we could not use as it was not on a high end service(i.e.,massage). There was no communication of that point. In the end, the spa split the difference with us, but I did feel at a high end resort they should have honored the voucher. But overall it was a great resort with outstanding food for an all inclusive.

"The staff make the experience"
Whether it was the person driving the golf cart or the lifeguard or the wait staff, they each made my children (2 under 7) and us feel welcome and cared for. They remembered our children and what they liked and did not like; they engaged with them in conversations. It was those human interactions that really made the trip unique and wonderful.

Pocket Guide: Riviera Maya Playa del Carmen 5 stars Hotels

Still small enough to explore on foot, Playa del Carmen has a relaxed, yet cosmopolitan feel, with a variety of hotels, shops, and restaurants ranging from causal to upscale. European-style sunbathing is common on beaches. Playa is a popular jumping-off point for day trips to Xcaret, Xel-Ha, Tulum, and other peninsula attractions, and a passenger ferry makes frequent runs to Cozumel.
