Although mainly found Chinese travellers there, I found it great. Staff were very helpful. There was at least one person who could speak in English. They also told me how to get about in the subway when asked. However, if you want to travel to Great Wall, hotel will not arrange a tour bus for you. I hired a taxi because I had one day allocated to go to Great Wall and it suited me. Also, hotel will not arrange airport transfer bus. There are taxis, and I took one, as I had luggage that I cannot carry in the subway. I found Chinese people as helpful people. Some will take a few minutes to show you directions. These seldom happen in a western country. If you know Chinese language, even a little, it will definitely help, as a few can communicate in English.

The hotel is in the middle of a traditional style hutong and exposes all visitors to a unique experience unlike many hotels you could ever visit. The hotel itself is very well kept, the breakfast is great, and the hotel staff was very nice and polite. The hotel offers a shadow art puppet show for free for all guests which shouldn't be missed. I would highly recommend staying at this hotel.
Overall an excellent experience. Most of the staff speaks some English, which is great since I speak no Chinese. The rooms are comfortable and quiet. The meals I had at the hotel were good and reasonably priced. When I was overcome by Beijing air pollution one day and had to stay in, the staff was nice to check on me and offer to get some medicine.
Location was great for tour bus pick-up for some day trips I had planned. But the hotel is also close enough to other attractions that you could walk to many sites. The Forbidden City is less than 1km away. Markets are close enough to walk to, as well. It was Autumn Festival when I was there, and there was a lot of activity at near-by lakes.
Two weeks at this hotel - have stayed here before - and the place has gone downhill a little.
Furniture is a little shabby and management needs to take steps to enforce the recently-regulated interior smoking ban.
