"Decent hotel in the city centre"
Sometimes you can believe the ratings. Expedia told me this was a 4 out of 5 hotel, and that's about right. The staff were fine, the leisure facilities decent, the room unproblematic. It's not the last word in luxury, and it is not cheap, but it is pretty much value for money.

"Opposite and facing the river"
Great rooms in great condition. Nice views opposite river, walk to town easy. Breakfast bar full of all you could hope for. Nice bar/lounge too. Car park costs on top of room booking costs - bit of a cheek. And prepare for a shock at cost of a glass of Pinot at the bar!

"Absolutely wonderful "
It's difficult to find the appropriate superlatives by which to impress upon would be vacationers just how wonderful Burnhopeside Hall is. The house itself is set in beautiful grounds which allows moments waiting a perfect place to spend time. The bedroom was wonderful, clean, light and the attached bathroom was beautiful with a huge bath and shower. The bed itself was like sleeping on a cloud. Breakfast was served with a huge range of offerings, including cereal, fruit, cooked breakfast made to order, more toast than you could shake a stick at, tea, coffee, orange juice. It had the advantage of being provided in a very flexible manner by the smashing lady of the house, who I have to mention is the perfect hostess. Quite simply the nicest place I've ever stayed and I would wholey recommend it to anyone with the sense to venture away from a chain hotel.
