"Old world charm meets modern conveniences."
Overall experience was good. Staff were generally helpful and pleasant. The room was spotless although I did find that the excessive use of bleach triggered an asthma attack! I stayed in the lodge on the top floor - no lift unfortunately - but the housekeeper helped me carry my 30kg suitcase up 2 flights of stairs - I really appreciated that. The dinners I had were absolutely superb - delicious combinations of unusual but subtle flavours. Breakfast was a little disappointing only because the choice of fruit was so limited - grapefruit interferes with some medications and oranges and tomatoes aggrivates arthritis. When I asked if there were any other choices I was basically ignored - but then I think English was an additional language for the person I asked so maybe she didn't understand my request. On day 2 I got up especially early and managed to nab a banana. Information about the facility would have been helpful in the room - I.e what time breakfast starts and how to contact reception.. Next time I want to stay in the main house - that looks amazing - my room was in the eves of the lodge and was quite small - would have been a squeeze for two people - but that's what you get for booking through Expedia!

"Perfectly adequate bed for the night."
Everything was okay, nothing wonderful, nothing bad. Would have appreciated 2 mugs in the room especially when it was booked for 2 people but soon remedied.

Oxford Abingdon Hotel - Abingdon Hotels

Oxford Abingdon Hotel

Marcham Road, Abingdon - Map
The Hotel was advertised as "4 Pillars" however, it has now been taken over by OAH (Oxford Abingdon Hotels). Perhaps the advertising needs updating! The Hotel is very handy for the general area of Abingdon, Oxford, Wantage, Didcot etc.. The Hotel suited our needs however, after declaring I was disabled, the bathroom only had a shower over the bath and it was extremely slippery. The woodwork and bath surround silicone needs attention. The carpet was quite badly marked and the floorboards were extremely noisy. That is all the negative points as the Staff were very good, very helpful and always friendly A good breakfast was available with the area controlled by two long term staff, Phyllis and Helen. They recognised us even after a year... good customer service. It was a good stay and I'm sure with the takeover, the points I made will be addressed. We will stay there again.

"Very comfortable facility close to central Oxford."
A very pleasant facility within easy walking distance of downtown Oxford and of train station and bus station. Well-equipped and very clean room; excellent breakfast arrangements and choice of dishes; well-trained and helpful staff. Easily accessible by car or bus; numerous transportation options. A great alternative to a more formal hotel.

"Value for money"
The pub/hotel is really nice and 'oldie world' so a bit basic but the bedroom was comfortable and all you want for a night. The staff were very helpful and the food was excellent. Our roast beef dinners were great value for money. Would stay again if in the Banbury area.
