Le Nouvel Hotel

"Clean, comfortable, but slightly out of the way "
The hotel's age is showing a bit but the facilities are all fairly well maintained. Our standard king room was clean, comfortable, and very spacious (in addition to me and my boyfriend, it could have slept another two people because of the pull-out sofa, and it wouldn't have felt cramped). It wasn't very close to the epicenter of downtown where all the action is but it was a five minute walk from the metro, which makes getting around pretty easy. If you don't mind a bit of walking then this hotel is a good, affordable choice.

Hôtel Brossard

"Excellent value, clean and comfortable"
The hotel is clean, quiet, comfortable and very well appointed, with modern spacious rooms, and free parking. Unfortunately, I had trouble sleeping because the bright lighting outside each window shines under the window blinds and is impossible to screen out completely. The main disappointment was breakfast, which was the bare minimum. The location on a busy highway did not lend itself to walking anywhere, but it is easy to find.

I stayed 5 nights & 6 days in this hotel. No problem parking my rental truck whenever I finished my day's work to go and have a nice rest for the evening. Did some workouts and swam in the indoor pool which is well maintained in terms of neatness.

"Very nice hotel on a centralized location"
Very nice hotel with friendly staff. Only problem is the elevator. Every morning I had to wait around 10 minutes for the elevator to arrive to my floor and another 5 min for it to arrive at the lobby after stopping in almost every floor.

Hotel Universel Montreal

5000, Rue Sherbrooke Est, Montreal - Map
This was my third time staying at Hotel Universal. We normally stay here for convenience, as we visit Montreal for MLS Soccer TFC vs. Impact. And the stadium is just across the street. So it's very convenient. The staff at the hotel is very pleasant, and do their best to accommodate your needs. They rooms are about 3.5-4 stars. The standard room are very basic. But their superior and premier rooms are much nicer. They have updated, modern bathrooms, digital thermostats and comfortable king sized beds!!! They also offer a shuttle drop off/pickup to the metro (subway). With two metro stations very close by, it makes traveling around to Downtown Montreal a breeze. We have not tried the pool or gym to give a rating for those. The one thing that does rate poorly in my books is the service in the restaurant, Le Toit Rouge (I think that's the correct spelling). Not sure if it's the fact that we are English speakers or that we get the breakfast coupon from the hotel (Hotel offers a coupon for $8.50 +tax + service/gratuity = roughly $10.25). The coupon gives you 2 eggs, choice of sausage, bacon or ham, potatoes, toast and coffee. In the restaurant it's $10.95 + tax + gratuity for this. So we save a little money. But every time we go there, present the coupon, the servers could care less about us. I asked for a refill for my coffee, didn't get it, the server never came back I would still go back.
