"A good place to stay."
This is the 4th time we have stayed here in the last couple of years. The location is great, far enough out of the noise and bustle of the city centre but close enough to get in and out of it. Staff are friendly and hotel rooms are a good size. I always get an exec room for the canal view. However, I would never stay on the forth floor as the windows are ground level and only come half way up the wall - so you're left with a very boxy room. The hotel itself is in need of an update. Carpets could do with replacing as well as wallpaper as there are obvious signs of wear and tear. The fixtures and fittings in the bathrooms could do with some care and re-fitting as some are loose and broken. Overall though, the hotel is comfortable and worth considering.

"Very nice hotel right on the Amstel river. "
Very nice, ultra clean hotel with a *fantastic* free continental breakfast that will keep you going all day long. My room was right on the canal so it felt like Venice. Personnel very professional and attentive to detail, especially the front desk. Excellent value for the kind of hotel and location. Two blocks from train, tram, Opera house, and canal taxi. Can't go wrong.

"Great value, fantastic staff"
Our standard double was in the back building of the hotel on the top floor up two flights of very steep stairs. Relatively small with limited hanging and storage space for clothes but just about enough for a short stay (we were there for 3 nights). Very comfortable bed and very very quiet with just two other rooms on our floor. No air con which was no issue at all during our stay but could be an issue in Summer. Simple decor with stylish en-suite. Could have done with additional dusting but otherwise cleanliness good. Breafast included simple continental mix of meats, cheeses, croissants, cereals, juice and coffee/tea. Tasty and all self service in the hotels casual and stylish bar area in the lobby. Very relaxed and enjoyable. Staff very friendly and well informed about the City. Tickets could be booked at reception for a number of attractions that helps beat queues. Location wise the hotel is just outside the centre but only a short 15 minute walk making it a perfect location for those wanting to visit the rijksmuseum or van Gogh museum (both fantastic). Dam Square is a pleasant 20-25 minute walk away along the canals and through vibrant streets and squares. But if that is too far the tram runs regularly from outside the front of the hotel. Price wise this hotel appears to be exceptional value and is a savvy choice for travellers looking for comfort, style and value.

"Nice hotel for a reasonable price"
Booked a room late in amsterdam on a holiday weekend. This hotel was very nice. The location was good in that it was right on the tram line which helped because many sites were a little bit far for an easy walk. The room was extremely clean and ready when we arrived early. It was very quiet even though it is located on a busy street. The bathroom was a little small as the walk in shower did not quite contain the water but plenty of towels from the hotel made it manageable.

"Nice Location near City Centre"
Hotel is an interesting older European building. It was somewhat worn but no different from my experience with other hotels in this price range. Not for the faint of heart though. In old country tradition the stairs are a cross between stairs and a carpeted ladder! 4 flights with luggage for many patrons may be a problem. Also, for the summer it was a bit hot since it was on the top floor, the windows don't open and there appeared to be no AC vents; but it did have a table fan.

Pocket Guide: Amsterdam Canal Ring 3 stars Hotels

The classic Amsterdam image of stately canals, the Canal Loop is principally the Herengracht and Keizersgracht, lined with gracious tall 17th and 18th-century houses. Some of these are now museums, most notably the eccentric Kattenkabinet. The Amstel is a more down-to-earth waterway, lined with houseboats and famous for its classic much–photographed Magere Brug (Skinny Bridge). The floating Flower Market is also a much-loved canal feature.
