"This is a real find. "
The view from this inn is unequaled on Bermuda. The pool overlooks the ocean and is remarkable. We loved our stay. We stayed in the luxury suite which was a gift to my grand daughter and her friend and both mothers and we couldn't have been more pleased!

"Perfect Location"
The Guest House is located 1 block from the supermarket and bus stop and 5 min. walk to the best beach - Elbow. Although #1 is considered Horseshoe beach, it is so crowded from cruise ships tourists that u can't appreciate the beauty of it. Elbow is a long stretch of beautiful sand (they say it is pink, but it is not in fact, but very pretty) w/ private hotels. Very few people. No car rentals in Bermuda, only scooters, so buses are very important to get around. Close proximity of bus stop to the hotel is very important. Food is expensive and going out to eat is even more expensive. Example:1 lb of watermelon $1.89 in supermarket. Georgetown is lovely, nice trip and scenery from the bus. Dockyards and Hamilton are not that interesting. Light House was good and the view is spectacular. Try Rum Swizzle. Stores close at 4-6 and buses stop running around 9. Go see other resorts and compare beaches. Elbow is the best. Grotto Bay has caves and famous restaurant nearby w/the best rum swizzle.

While the service of the main components of the hotel were good, we had a few surprises. First, there was a $10/day/pp charge for cleaning, eventhough we never had the room cleaned, only required new towels. Second, it was required for us to purchase $50 Griffin Dollars/pp. Griffin's is a restaurant on the premise ... food is good, service very slow and they do not open for breakfast.

"Paradise at a value price"
We have been coming to Bermuda for 35 years. We have stayed in a variety of hotels. This was our third stay at the Surf Side. We came for our honeymoon in 1980, stayed here again in 1985 and again this past week. We were pleasantly surprised when they upgraded us from the room we paid for to a private cottage right on the water (when I say that, we are at the top of the cliffs above the beach). The view astonishing, it was quiet and the room nice. Understand that Bermuda is paradise. We don't stay in the room much, but this cottage had a private kitchen, so we went to the Modern Mart and bought groceries, and thus cooked some quick meals in the room, which saved money and allowed us to enjoy the lovely scenery. When we stayed in the 80's the place was pristeen. Since then, the maintenance is lacking. You will see peeling paint, handrails in deterioration, and some open electrical boxes, but overall a good value on the south shore beaches, which is where you want to be. We'll be staying here again, I'm sure.
