Hotel looked recently redone. Very cute and clean. Great bedding and pillows. Only downside is the windows are old and let in some outside noise. Very surprised how nice the hotel and neighborhood were. Great room and location for the price.

"Stay here, but leave cash for a deposit!"
The stay was actually OK, but having the CC I used for the deposit skimmed and sold to some guy in Poland made everything else less salient.

Ocean Beach Hotel

"Can't get closer to the beach!"
Older hotel but well maintained. Tiny bathroom but very clean with good pressure and plentiful hot water. Balcony with an ocean view, close enough to hear the waves crashing. Huge courtyart with tables, fountain and a great view. Town is a throwback to the 60's with a hippie vibe. Cute shops and lots of restaurants close enough to walk. Saw older couples, families and lots of young people.

"Tired hotel with a great location."
The hotel was built in the fifties and I suspect much of the décor and furniture dates back to then. The hotel hasn't been maintained as well as it could have been, but there appeared to be quite a bit or remodeling going on. We were a bit disappointed when we first checked in, but it was very clean and the mattress appeared to be really new. The breakfast is nice and it is served on the rooftop where you have probably the best view in LaJolla. The hotel was quiet and the service was good. We enjoyed our time there and will stay there again.

"Great location downtown La Jolla!"
Didn't know what to expect but for our one day stop over it was the perfect location. Nice room. We got a room with an ocean view. The pool was perfect for our 2 children (6&8). A quick walk down to Seal Beach to see all the seals lounging around. A wonderful sunset on a crisp February day. plenty of restaurants to choose from. Will definitely look into it again if we want to stay in La Jolla!

Hotel Aqua Mar

1510 Rosecrans Street, San Diego - Map
I was a little skeptical coming to this hotel during my trip only after reading the reviews after i purchased my room. This is a little hotel/ motel that seems to have been revamped. The rooms are as pictured, a little small though and the bathroom as well is as pictured. My only complaint during my trip was that I had to wait till the morning when the employees were back to ask for towels. We were only given one towel which was a huge inconvenience for me and my hubby meaning one of us, was going to use a wet towel. Regardless, this hotel is walking distance to pretty much everything and a block away from the harbor which is pretty nice! I would maybe stay here again for a super short trip.

"Nice, Simple Room & Cheapest Rate"
My girlfriend and I are longtime fans of places such as Motel 6 and the Padre Trail Inn in the Old Town vicinity but has since been torn down & replaced by a Hilton Garden Inn. We never see ourselves as hoity-toity-kind-of-people nor do we require any upscale kind of settings. We prefer to live a relatively modest life where nice and simple is our way of life without high cost for an extravaganza lifestyle. EZ8 is definitely right up our alley. Though the train does go by periodically, it's not that bad. We actually enjoyed it for we are easily entertained. It's a relatively quite area. The motel is rather large and quite organized for they provide a small quick pamphlet of basic rules/amenities with a very professional, accommodating & friendly staff.
