When I arrived they were ready for me at the front desk. Very pleasant staff showed me to my room immediately. Price was right for type of resort/hotel...more importantly - the bed was comfortable, staff were pleasant, and it was quiet.

"Great staff, rooms need upgrading"
The staff were very accommodating. the view i had was great, over looking the pool & ocean. The room needed some love and care but I assume they are working on that based on the 12 hour a day sawing and drilling that was going on across the hall. Food was better than expected also started quite early which was nice. I celebrated my birthday and a group of the staff came and brought cake, it was very nice

Grand Royal Lagoon - Cancun Hotels

Grand Royal Lagoon

"Perfect for the budget minded family"
As other reviewers have stated, this hotel is mainly visited by upper middle class Mexican families, yet it is convenieny located in the hotel zone facing the Cancun lagoon. The Good: Quick check in Safe deposit included Great AC Clean rooms and beds made daily Hot water Hotel has their own restaurant facing the lagoon. Prices $4-6 per person for most meals and $1-$2 for most nonalcoholic drinks Safe location half block away from main Kukulcan blvd supermarket, inexpensive restaurants, laundrymat, pharmacy and gas station within a block. WiFi Very clean and manicured landscapes. It is more of a small scale resort. My family could not believe I paid $300 for a 1 week double bed stay Inside the supermarket we found Max and Aida a couple that stands inside the supermarket door and sell tour packages. They were recommended to us by one of the local restaurants. They sold us a couple packages, one to Xcaret and another to Chichen Itza. We found their prices 2/3 the cost of other tour sales reps. For example, Chichen Itza costed us $1100 pesos or $450 pesos per adult and $200 pesos per child. This included everything including food and a mini van picking us up on time at the hotel lobby every morning, which then took us to a local mall where buses leave. Others priced us at $850 pesos per person. So you do the math. Areas of Improvement: Add more wireless access points and increase bandwidth as it does get saturated at night No telephones available. had to use VOIp

"Cancun on a budget."
If you want to save money and don't mind walking, this is an okay hotel in the Hotel Zone. There is no wireless internet in the rooms, only in the lobby. The hotel does have breakfast included with a variety of breads, cereals, and drinks to choose. The room is nice, although a little small. Just up the street are a limited amount of bars and restaurants, and a laundry facility which are inexpensive. Unless you really like to walk, everything else will require transportation.

"Million Dollar View on a Thousand Dollar Budget"
We had a great time at this hotel. We stayed during Spring Break, but it was our anniversary so we went anyway. We were pretty nervous thinking we were going to run into a bunch of partying college students. Not at this hotel! Most of the crowd were people between late 20's on up into folks in their 80's. The breakfast was excellent. The lunch and dinners were good too, although I did not enjoy Italian night or Asian night. Why they don't do Mexican food every night is beyond me. When I go to Mexico, I want to eat Mexican food. I guess I'm not gringo enough to appreciate it. The room was fine, except for the bed. OMG, the bed was SO HARD! It was like sleeping on plywood with a thin sheet of foam. What we loved best about the room was the view. We had an ocean view and it was truly amazing. Any discomfort with the bed was outweighed by the view. When we got there, the AC seemed to not be working, but we know window units and it was just frozen. We turned it off and let it thaw and it worked just fine for the rest of the week. They have free Wifi by the restaurant and by the circular pool, but not in the rooms.

"Nice Hotel usefull for a lot of excursions"
Much to large rooms for single persons, better for groups of four. Small bathroom. Nice and quiet cleaning stuff. Nice restaurant slightly too expensive. Suitable too meet mexican people. Near to beach and town centre and supermarket. If needed near to bars and discos. Dive center very small and quite rotten, but nice guide. Wildlife in front of the door everywhere, interesting for people interested in biology.

"Well Worth the Stay"
When we arrived I found the staff to be very nice and helpful. The room was inviting with cold air already filling the room. The pool looked very inviting. Plenty of towels and other essentials. Breakfast was served daily starting at 6:30am. Fresh fruit, pastries, eggs, a meat, cheese, cereal, juice and coffee. The breakfast staff was wonderful, making us feel welcome and like a part of the family every morning. The staff was very helpful throughout my entire stay of 8 days. Flat screen tv in the room with about 14 different channels... something for everyone. I would highly recommend this hotel and plan on staying there again when I go back to Cancun for my honeymoon.

Pocket Guide: Cancun Hotel Zone 2 stars Hotels

The Cancun Hotel Zone rests on a slit of land bound by a lagoon and the turquoise waters of the Caribbean Sea. Sunseekers crowd the white-sand beaches. At night, the action moves to the restaurants, clubs, and bars that line Boulevard Kukulcán, the area’s main artery. This road passes by the El Rey ruins, believed to be a king’s tomb.
