"Not for everyone"
Let me start with positives, because I don't think this is a terrible place. The staff were friendly and the building itself felt like an old-time apartment. My room was nice and I didn't even mind the shared bathroom, I never waited to use it and everything was clean, just a little old. Given the price of both san francisco and my location I didn't expect quality but the convenience did outweigh some of the negatives. This is a great place for short stays, people on a budget, and most importantly people who are neither sheltered, or have others they have to shelter from the realities of the real world. This leads me to the negatives. There were homeless littered outside of the building and I really mean I was scared to leave at night, but never had any issues or trouble when I did. The room had no air conditioning so when it was hot, there was nothing to do but sweat like a pig in bed. I got offered to buy weed just outside of the location and was often talked to by crazy people. This is not the place you bring a family and certainly not a place if you get bothered easily. Remember this: You're giving up a lot for price and convenience with this location, but if those are your focal points and personal comfort, social or otherwise, is your primary concern, take the northern tips or expensive hotels 'cause this one won't be for you.

"All in All not too bad"
The place was very clean and fairly quiet. I don't think I would stay there for a vacation with my wife and kids, but for a business trip it was more than adequate. The price was very reasonable for the accommodations provided. No coffee pot but the refrigerator and microwave were very convenient. Internet access was reliable and fairly fast for a motel.

"Excellent Affordable Clean Hostel "
It's not much of a party hostel, more on the quieter side which I liked because, all I wanted was a quiet place to sleep. The breakfast is good as you got cereals, breads, nutella, peanut butter and kitchen facilities are excellent. The hostel scores pretty high on the cleanliness scale. Security is good since you have to be buzzed in to get in. Shared bathrooms and toilets were clean, however, please provide guests with bigger towels for showering. The towels provided are too small, that is my only complaint. Don't expect the Ritz, San Francisco is expensive and this is an affordable, very clean no-frills option in a prime locatino

"Incredible value for money"
This is a fantastic hotel for very little money. It is in a great location with many shops and restaurants nearby, but not too noisy. The staff are fantastic. Very polite and accomodating. Even provide juice and coffee for free in the morning.

European Hostel

761 Minna Street, San Francisco - Map
This is somewhere to stay if you are on a tight budget. We were there for 4 nights and every night at least one bathroom was unusable. There is no elevator. The kitchen facilities were good, the lounge section uncomfortable. Definitely a young persons place.

Decent hotel, clean and close to places that tourists want to go, but there's a lot of weird and homeless people in the surroundings.

I like that guests get their own front door key, as opposed to hotels where guests must wait to be buzzed in. Good sized room. Everything as described and better due to nice staff.
