Lisbon has a rich history of spies and covert activity going back at least 800 years, to the early days of Portuguese exploration and discovery. At the beginning of this period, secret maps, secret devices, and upper-hand knowledge gave Portuguese sailors a competitive advantage to lead this worldwide enterprise—they wanted to keep what they knew secret, but were always seeking to gain more knowledge.
More recently, during World War II, both the Allies and the Axis powers kept impressive diplomatic services inside Lisbon—one of the only places in war-torn Europe where all sides were able to meet on equal grounds. Both sides also looked to gain whatever secrets they could in this city, and quickly turned the city into a true “nest of spies.” The “plane to Lisbon” was used as an escape route in the movieCasablanca, and remains one of the best-known examples of the on-going covert activity during this time.

After you book your activity, follow these 3 easy steps:
1. Print your voucher; locate the voucher in your travel confirmation e-mail or in the My Trips/My Itineraries link on the site.
2. Follow the redemption instructions on your voucher; it iscritical to do this before you depart.
3. Take all vouchers with you; you must redeem one voucher per person.
Exchange your voucher for activity:
Proceed to the departure location on the day of your tour. Please arrive at least 15 minutes prior to the 10 AM or 2:30 PM departure to allow time to check-in. Present your voucher(s) and photo ID upon request. |
