Potsdam is perfect for biking, with a flat landscape and numerous Prussian and Cold War sights tucked deep in parks and along quiet alleyways. Potsdam is also a vibrant university town with a contemporary, creative energy and loads of lakes and parks for the nature-lover. This fun bike tour will make you understand why Potsdam is called the ‘Versailles of Berlin’—and why it offers so much more.
Start with Sanssouci and its palaces, orangerie, and windmill before riding through Brandenburg Gate and the quaint Dutch Quarter. Arrive at the New Gardens and Marble Palace before entering Cecilienhof, where Truman, Stalin, and Churchill concluded the Potsdam Agreement (The Potsdam Agreement was a policy document regarding Germany’s reconstruction after World War II.) You’ll ride through the ‘no-man’s land’ between West Berlin and East Germany and over Glienicke Bridge where Cold War spy exchanges were once routine.
