I can admit I was wrong
We ended up at Main Street Station because it was last minute for superbowl weekend. I was skeptical, as my image of the Old Vegas area casinos was pretty bad. But I have to admit I was wrong, at least about the Main Street Station. This is a well run and fun casino. It does not runneth over with luxury but it has what you need, like your neighborhood hangout. Low cost tables, a great beer selection (micro-brewery on site), good food (buffet or bew-pub), and large, clean rooms. Friendly dealer and pit boss teams, too. If you are at the stage where you dont want to walk to every new shiny casino but just stay one place and have a good time with your friends, without paying too much, and without fear of ending up in a dive, this is a great place to go. Traveler tip...there is a parking garage right next to the hotel, dont park in the first hotel lot you see coming off the freeway.

Downtown Gem
We prefer staying downtown Vegas over the strip and Main Street Station is one of the reasons why. The hotel itself is nice, older, but still kept up well. The food in the buffet is very good, and the champagne brunch on the weekends is a deal. However, our favorite part about Main Street is the Triple 7 Brewery. The beers there are awesome and so is the food. Our bartenders have been great, and remember us, even though we get to Vegas just a couple times a year. Main Street Station is a few blocks off of Fremont Street, but the walk is easy and they are connected to the California Casino via a skywalk.
