Right next to Subway, Neighborhood isn’t that great though

The subway entrance (that has several different lines intersecting at this stop) is literally at the door step to this hotel making it very easy to get around the city. The hotel is nice, but the bathroom smelled a bit like dirty mop water. But, that said, staff was very friendly, all that I interacted with spoke English and had a good time. Do not bother with their restaurant/bar though. They took a solid 15 minutes to make our drinks, and then the waitress spilled the drink all over me and herself. I understand that accidents happen, but then she ran back to the bar and cleaned herself up, with the manager checking on her, and without bothering to give me a napkin. We ended up just leaving without receiving an apology, just an offer that she can make us a new drink. There isn’t anything to see in this neighborhood. You’re right next to Bastille, but it was destroyed and all that exists is a broken pillar. There is a slum house a block away. You’re best off just using this hotel as a point to get into the Subway and go see something! Don’t let the area deter you from staying here because the price was certainly right for us.

Surprisingly pleased - Good Value.

I booked a room for three nights at the Crowne Plaza Republique as part of a last minute package for Valentines weekend (2010). This was my third visit to Paris, but I’d never ventured into this area before (though I’d spent a fair amount of time in the adjacent Marais area). I wasn’t expecting much, especially since this is the upscale version of Holiday Inn (which, in the US, doesn’t have the best connotations). I was very pleasantly surprised. The room itself was a decent size (especially by Paris standards) with an equally roomy bathroom. The decor of the room was fine - fairly basic, but we don’t need more than that. The room was comfortable. We were on the fourth floor, which meant that our only window was fairly high up - you had to be standing right by it too look out. On the plus side, we experienced no noise issues. I really enjoyed the location in the end - very convenient to the metro, and lots of good cafes and restaurants close by. I wouldn’t hesitate to stay here again - I think I enjoyed this more than our stay at a much more expensive hotel by the Arc de Triomphe (I would never stay in that area again). It is a solid value for a comfortable (but basic) hotel in a nice, accessible area.

great hotel in paris

The rooms were huge. The water pressure in the shower was outstanding. The bar was great. Location is excellent, near Metro and many good cafes, restuarants. Outstanding value.
